Are the UC online applications open yet?
The UC app comes online in October, and the filing period is November 1-30.

Also, are the online applications exactly the same as the paper form applications?
The online application should be exactly like the paper forms.

Do all of the UCs have the same online/ paper application and is it possible to send one of these to multiple UCs (similar to common app)?
Yes, they all have the same application. When you go to apply, you will fill out one application, and then you will check off which colleges you're applying to (Berkeley, UCLA, etc.).

Do you guys reccomend the common app or the applications used specifically for schools you are planning on attending? Also, do colleges lower your chances if you send them a common applications?
It really doesn't matter. Colleges opt to the Common App for your convenience.

I was looking at the statistics for UCs, and for the 8,000 students who were admitted only 4,000 enrolled! Is this true for most colleges?
No, it's not. It varies depending on the college, though about a 50% yield is very good, rather normal for the top colleges. The super elites, though, will have about a 66%+ yield. Some top colleges, such as Chicago, have lower yield rates, in the 30s. The vast majority of colleges have much lower than 50%.

Is that why colleges also seek students who they know will enroll at their colleges (i.e. EA/ED)?
Partly, yes. It helps the college to gauge how many students are going to come, how many they should accept RD, etc.
