UC or Cal state

Back to the OP'S question lets take a look at some CSU and UC endowments:

UCB $2 Billion + Year founded: 1868

UCLA $1.7 Billion Year founded: 1919

UCSB $430 Million Year founded: 1944

UCD $420 Million Year founded: 1905

UCSD $350 Million Year Founded: 1959

UCR $153 Million Year founded: 1954

ENTIRE CSU ENDOWMENT: 23 SCHOOLS since 1868...... $678 Million!

Does that not speak volumes....???

Either graduates from UC's are making ALOT more money or graduates from CSU'S are tightwads!!!

And for the hell of it... Harvard's endowment: $25.9 Billion Yale's $15+ Billion.

so what.

if csu are so great and you advocate them (actually, you probably just do it for the sake of arguing) then why don't you go there instead of berkeley?

oh wait. that's because you know berkeley is better. my point exactly.

For econ/biz people, I don't think school is the most important factor that contributes to success in career. Academic success is just part of the package. I once read a magazine article from my home country. A girl went to UC Davis econ (I'm not sure about it) and worked in Morgan Stanley during internship. Before graduation, she won a very decent job in a big company in UK. I mean, she isn't even from UCB and UCLA but she manages to win a job among a lot of people!

"if csu are so great and you advocate them (actually, you probably just do it for the sake of arguing) then why don't you go there instead of berkeley?"

I shouldn't even respond to that, since it should be obvious if you paid any attention to my argument. For ME PERSONALLY, for my reasons, it makes much more sense to go to a UC, Berkeley in particular.

because you are the upper crust of community college students?

like others said, CSUs serve a different purpose. the CSU mandate is to provide accesible college education to the state. UCs are research institutions. for that reason i imagine you could easily get a better education at a CSU than at a UC, depending on what you study and where. certainly you will have smaller class sizes and experience a greater diversity of both students and professors at a CSU.

i know a few people at cc who have opted for CSU over UC even though they were accepted. not everyone is prestige oriented, some have ambitions which are better served by the CSU system.

a lot of it is hype anyway.

besides, education, and life for that matter, is what you make of it. there are as many people with UC diplomas working unfulfilling crap jobs and as there are people with CSU diplomas who are happy and successful. let's not be so insecure with ourselves that we need to bash CSUs. they are important institutions that provide many people in this state the opportunity to go to college that they might not otherwise have.

yah uc's lots o hype... which UC do you go to enginer?

will be attending berkeley thanks

Gabe, you are contradicting yourself! You mentioned about all the goodness of UC Berkeley and now you blah blah blah going to compare the CSU with the UCs saying CSU are better than UCs.

"No, i didn't say CSU are better than UCs" , oh if so, don't you agree that "UCs are better than CSU"
"oh, no UCs are not better than CSU, they are different system and they can't compare with one another... blah blah blah"
oh ok, then UCs are not better than CSU, and CSU are not better than UCs; they can't be compared... or may be "no, i didn't mean that, i mean blah blah blah" or may be... continueing on and on...

Ok, If you are admitted to Cal Poly San Luis or any of the 23 campuses, and UC Berkeley... you know what you choose! End of story! <<< SIMPLE POINT!

Come on, one can't be running and stopping at the same time!!!

Kevin, frankly, you make no sense.

For me, GIVEN MY SITUATION, MY GOALS, ETC., the UCs are better. I chose a UC because it is best for me.

For MANY OTHERS, the CSU system is better.

YOU CANNOT MAKE AN ABSOLUTE DECLARATION AS TO WHICH IS "BEST"! Further, the systems are apples and oranges; they should not be compared in that way.

I could argue that others should adopt similar reasons as me for going to school and then choose a UC--for instance, to get an education, not a job. Such an argument is not suited for this discussion.

How is that contradictory? Hopefully you can conceive of what I have just explained.

CSUs and UCs are both good, and specialize in different things. what is the point of bringing down CSUs? What do you people have against them? Most of you who are insulting CSUs are ignorant on the matter...

And thats final. No point in continuing the argument

"besides, education, and life for that matter, is what you make of it. there are as many people with UC diplomas working unfulfilling crap jobs and as there are people with CSU diplomas who are happy and successful. let's not be so insecure with ourselves that we need to bash CSUs. they are important institutions that provide many people in this state the opportunity to go to college that they might not otherwise have."

^ exactly what he said.

I agree... I found this discussion useless and pointless... and I made a POINTLESS post to let you guys see how pointless this thread is!!!!!

CSU suck!!

Congratulations, kevin101. People like funnyguy seriously need to go. They are doing a disservice to everyone who visits this forum. Apparently they have no other outlets in their lives for humor or interaction.

dude, im telling it like it is. i have the right to my opinion. do i not?

Your posts are clearly facetious, yet many may misperceive them, causing potential harm. I don't think that kind of behavior belongs in a forum like this; this forum is about providing information, not misleading people or providing baseless opinions.

why r u going to a hyped up school enginenr?

^probably because the engineering program at Cal is incredible
