UC Personal Statement continued onto Additional Comments?

Is it okay to continue my 2nd statement onto the additional comments section if I am over the word limit? CommonApp allows this so I was wondering whether UC schools allow this too or not

no they don’t allow it

Source?

Common App allows that? I don’t really think you should. There is a word limit for a reason.

Stick to the word limit. Having a word limit in the first place is a test of seeing if you can write concisely and still get your point across. If you insert it in the comments section, there is no guarantee that they will see it and it may reflect poorly on your ability to be concise. College admissions officers don’t want to be reading a 5 page paper when they are deciding whether to admit a kid.

Yes CommonApp allows that. I emailed them and they said it’s fine as long as I mention that I am continuing my essay

It’s only like 100 words over the limit which is about 3-5 sentences

I hiiiiighly doubt that you actually need 100 more words to say what you need to say.

no but it would add more detail

I agree with the others. Stick to the word limit. Read for yourself…

I’ve gotten my essays to be exactly 1000 words total. My first one is 403 and second is 597

Sometimes detail is not needed and you can get across the same exact point with less words.
