UC Personal Statement Prompt#2

I'm applying to UCLA and Irvine for Business Administration, and I was trying to get feedback for my essay. Thanks!!!

Health is something that many people may take for granted. Prior to last year, I have never been really sick or have encountered any type of incident that has required me to go to the hospital. Right around a year ago, my life was forever changed in the span of one week.

I woke up at 2 a.m. in the morning and had an indescribable back pain on both sides of my kidneys. Two days later, the pain evolved into me not being able to eat or hold down any fluids. I was admitted to the hospital, and was told by the doctor that I had Acute Kidney Failure. Hearing these words scared me and made me think that my life could be drastically changed. The pain was comparable to kidney stones and I knew that the clock was ticking, because my kidneys were slowly shutting down. The doctor informed my family and me that I was going to need to start chemotherapy, and eventually dialysis. After dialysis, it was going to be a matter of time before I needed a kidney transplant.

I was okay with the news and I would not let it break my spirit. Instead of sulking, I found inner strength to prevail me into thinking positive. I knew that life was going to be harder, but it was not going to limit me from achieving my short and long term goals. The following morning, I received the best news of my life. The doctor walked in and told me that he has no explanation but my kidneys went back to normal overnight. He stated that he has never seen anything like this and I am indeed a true miracle.

Upon receiving the news, I have never been truly more appreciative of my family, and the fact that I have been given a second chance of being completely healthy. The experience made me realize that life is too precious and I cannot take anything for granted, especially my heath. A year later, I have never been more excited or motivated about accomplishing and completing things in my life with a healthy mind and body. Graduating college has always been a huge goal of mine since no one in my nuclear family has graduated college with a four year degree. Not only do I want to be the first one to graduate, but to earn my degree from one of the prominent UC schools in California. My personal experience has taught me to battle through anything that life has presented me, and I possess the determination and an unparalleled resiliency to make me an ideal student for your University.

I like it. I only found like one grammatical error. The graduate part. You forgot a to but other than that it was compelling to me! :)

Thank you, I’ve been stressing this very much!!

Haha honestly I think it’s way better than mines!! Hahaha !! And I’m trying to transfer as a bus.admin major from a jc >.<

Me too! What’s your GPA? I have 3.82, but I hear people with 4.0’s are getting turned away.

Oh gosh my gpa is horrible lmao! Im not a very good student haha ! But I have a 3.2 I did y tag with ucr and they already sent me the agreement thingy. Have hope I guess! Haha supposedly it’s “easier” for transfer students. But have back up schools just in case?

For sure, My backups are UC Riverside, and SB. If all fails, I applied at several CSU’s. I’m just trying to aim high.

Understandable. When I read about Uci business program it’s acceptance rate is 12%! Whatta killer. I guess it’s new that’s why it’s so competitive. Have you considered Unlv? They have a good business program too. I heard LMU has a good business program but that’s for graduates. Im considering on applying there just in case I dont want to go to ucr…LOL but ah idk!
