Yeah, community service would definetely be an option. It really is anything you take the time to do outside of school that can benefit your overall well roundedness as a student such as sports, volunteering, clubs, etc.

i would say EC's are ALMOST a complete waste of time for CC transfers. its all about gpa, and the major you are trying to transfer into. dont kill yourself joining a million clubs.

itchy23,

i wish ya r righ! i have to finish 60+ units in 1.5 yrs w/o APs. i really don't have much time to do ECs.

But i heard that they're improtant for Berkeley.... :( is that rumor?

I had this many EC's and got into Cal- 0

though i did work part time.

I personally am convinced that ECs matter most to Cal as opposed to the other UCs especially if your GPA is below a 3.8. But you have to convey that whatever ECs you did, they were meaningful and significant to you and to your community.

itchy,

lol, you said you had zero EC's but then said you worked part time O_o. Working is an EC.

Anyway, to address the question on importance of EC's...I wouldn't go overboard in either direction (go crazy and do a million, or do zero) but you will sleep better at night during the long five month wait if you have one to two very solid EC's.

I made up 75% of mine and got in :D Spring admit though... :(

EDIT: ohh sweet, 300th post

thetrumpet,
oh,,, so u made up some. haha,i wish i would, but i'm afraid.... u know..

It's a kind of sad. I think most of u guys have solid ECs. But what i have are just very random volunteerings(1-2 times). i think i will be one of those kind of guys have 4.0 but nothing else.... not enough for Cal :(

ECs are not important for Cal except Haas of business!

thetrumpet, you're scum.

And gogogobears, if that is your attitude about it, I hope you don't become a fellow bear.

lol, i wouldn't really consider working an EC when the purpose is to put food on the table so i can live. it wasn't like i was doing it to boost my chances of being admitted. BUT, if they are looking at work as an EC then my advice to everyone is to make a little money and ease up on the club participation... unless its hardcore honors this or that or maybe student gov.

Edward04 taking life a little too seriously?

^ i think he was just annoyed that you claimed you lied about the majority of your EC's. He's envisioning kids who killed themselves in CC and were honest about all their EC's getting denied and then you being accepted ( i think)

I guess... there's more important things going on out there than kids making up a couple EC's.

^i'm with you, and it's not like you weren't at risk had they somehow found out. you gambled and won. in this ****ed up cutthroat admissions process i'd say every man for himself is the reality.

thetrumpet,

Not really. I'm an older student (28) and a veteran staff sergeant. I've seen enough guys like you in my life experience to realize you're a d0uchebag.

^ definitely takes life too seriously.

Haha yea, he'll fit in real nice with the crowd at Cal... or not.

Maybe it really doesn't matter if you make up your ECs or not. You might as well have gotten in without your ECs, who knows...

But the fact that you did it says alot about your personality. If I knew who you were I wouldn't run to the admissions office and tell them, but I definitely would stay away from you. Just one tip: Don't brag about it at Berkeley like you did here.

I really don't think it does say a lot about my personality, and I find it interesting that an international student from a SoCal CC is giving me "tips" on how to act in Berkeley, a city I've lived in for the past 20 years.
