UC PersonalStatement, Can we use quotes?

Can we use quotes in our personal statements?
Or can we reference poems? For example, i want to incorporate 'road not taken' by Robert Frost?
Thanks

Sure … why not? Provide a reference and the quotes. It’s a well known poem.

Look at:

[How to Quote and Cite a Poem in an Essay Using MLA Format | eHow.com](http://www.ehow.com/how_4505683_quote-essay-using-mla-format.html)

I wouldn’t post that because a. That takes up word count and they aren’t even your words
b. That poem is insanely over done and you won’t seem insightful for using it, perhaps even a little dull because the poem itself is becoming a cliche…

Not that it isn’t a great poem; it’s just way over used.
I’m 99% certain that your statement would be stronger if you took whatever idea you want from Frost’s poem and put it in your own words/experience than if you just quoted Frost.

My whole essay was about different paths of life. and so i thought it would an okay opening to start with a reference to Robert frost?

i think what wanton is saying is: reference yes, quote no.

i definitely wouldn’t start it with that quote
