UC Political Science Transfers 2016

Hey fellow poli sci majors! I noticed a few other people started threads like this for their specific major, so I thought it would be helpful for there to be one for Political Science majors too. I haven’t heard back from any schools yet but if you have, feel free to post!

I applied to:
UC Berkeley - Decisions out April 29th
UCLA - Releasing decisions some time in late April
UC Davis - I have a TAG with them but they’re sending out decisions April 22nd
UCSB - Rolling admission starting March 22nd— i’m really hoping i’m in the first batch lol
UCSC - i’m expecting to hear from them on March 17th

Only a couple more months to go but it feels like eternity @-)

I applied at UCSD, UCI, and UCLA.
GPA 3.95

I have a TAG to Irvine, and I’m basically guaranteed at UCSD. I just haven’t been able to do that pesky Stats requirement and it’s killing me inside that UCLA could reject me just because I don’t have it :(.

One year transfer hoping to get into UCSB. Haven’t seen much about one year Poli-Sci transfers on here, wish I could find somebody with a similar experience.

Major: Political Science
UC-Transferable GPA: 3.6
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Done after Spring Semester
Major Prep: 6/7 done after Spring Semester is over. One’s covered by an AP test, so that’s nice.
ECs: A bunch of clubs from High School related to my major.
President of the Debate Team.
I volunteer at local Debate leagues to judge.
PS: One of the better things I’ve written, so probably 7-8/10.
TAG: Not eligible for TAG since the 30 units I had were from AP tests, not actual classes.
Applied to: UC Berkeley, UC Irvine

@HeideggerNSartre Your GPA is in the 25th percentile for Poli Sci, but your chances look pretty good.

@Mont2LA I know what you mean. My inability to get into the “perfect” statistics course for LA forced me to apply under Sociology. I am not a CC students so I cannot miss prereqs, but I am sure that they won’t hold that against you considering the GPA that you have. The PoliSci department needs to revise those requirements. Literally every other social science department allows students to take any statistics course. There is like 10 options for Sociology, Psychology, etc. Not to mention the fact that the only options they give PoliSci majors isn’t even a specialized course. It is just a generic stats course. Its ridiculous.

Anyway, I applied to UCSD, UCB, and UCSC for political science. UCSB and UCLA for History of Pubic Policy and Sociology respectively.

I just got in to UCSD! It’s my last choice of all of the schools I applied at, but I am still very happy about it.

Congratulations, @Mont2LA !

@CATransfer2016 Thank you!

gl all

I got into UCSC last night
My gpa is 3.4, I finished the IGETC last semester, and I have all pre-reqs for SC complete.

I’m really hoping to hear from UCSB on Tuesday, although i’m missing a pre-req that isn’t offered at my school and three other pre-reqs are currently in progress. I’m not sure what the average gpa accepted for poli sci at SB is, but for some reason i’m not feeling too optimistic about my chances.

I just realized that 6 weeks from now, all of the UC transfer decisions will have been released!

Hello guys, glad to find this political science thread.
Wish you guys best of the luck.

So far, I got the letters of acceptance from UCR.
I’m currently waiting from: UCSD, UCSB UCI, UC Davis, UCLA, and Cal.
My UC transferable GPA is 3.5 (IGETC will be fulfilled by this Spring).

Congratulations for those who have been admitted to UCSD!

@iunique i’m glad you found it too! Thank you and the best of luck to you as well!

Did you get your answers in the form of emails or did you check your UC site?

@RG12345 For UCSC, I checked the admission portal and the next day I also received an email

Thanks, i’m so anxious about getting replies. I have TAG to UC Davis but I’m still so nervous

By any chance are you planning on attending law school?

Also if you are, have you considered attending a CSU? I’m having somewhat of an issue, I’m planning on attending law school and I figure that CSU are cheaper and that it doesn’t really matter where I get my BA. I’d definitely go to UCLA if I got accepted but I’m unsure of Davis is worth it. Sorry to burden you with this but I thought you may be in the same shoes as I am and I could use a fresh perspective. Thanks

@RG12345

  1. Which CSU are we talking about?
  2. Are you absolutely, positively sure that law school will remain the end goal?
