So I have been admitted to a UC recently (Riverside). I had to Withdraw from one of my classes because I am really having trouble with the professor, If I continue I might end up failing it ( So i have to urgently withdraw from it). All other in progress courses I am doing excellent in.
Do I need to notify the UC if i am planning to Withdraw from a class? or it will be okay if it just shows up on the final transcript once I send it to them before July? and will it effect my admission? (Not a required course).
I read their online guidelines, but it only said to notify them when D/F grade is earned or DROP the class.
The W will not affect my final GPA, so will my admission be affected if they see a W?
PS. it will be my only and first W on the transcript.
Thanks!
seriously? Prior to a given deadline if you don’t want a class you drop it, no record on your transcript exists that you were ever enrolled . After that deadline you don’t want the class anymore, you withdraw and it stays on your record but no grade is given. You really think the rule about notifying them doesn’t apply to you because of the wording for essentially the same action?
Withdrawing from a class is the same as dropping a class. Well, dropping a class is withdrawing within the given time frame so that it won’t show up on your transcript. Unfortunately, it will show up on yours because you dropped it too late. I’m assuming that this class won’t take your unit count below 60, wasn’t a major pre-requisite, and wasn’t recommended for your major?
Regardless, you still dropped a class and still need to notify UCR and any other schools that you applied to.
I was accepted as a sophomore status, so they already knew that I am transferring under 60 anyways. However, it is a major pre-rerquisete (math class), but even including it, I still will be transferring WITHOUT all of my per-requisites (I see they accepted me without completing them all). My main question is a W likely to get my admission resigned or no? (doesn’t that apply to D/F) What if I contacted them with a valid reason, and tell them that I am planning to take it at their campus?
@yoyo1995 I would not drop it if I were you. If it is a major prereq, it is very likely that your admission will be revoked. Is there anything that you can do to get at least a C in this class? Does your CC provide tutoring services?
I am sorry if this sounds harsh, but “having trouble with the professor” is not a valid reason to drop, and you are naive to think that your situation is unique. UCs probably get dozens of such post-acceptance emails daily (just check other threads on Transfers forum)… You never know, maybe that class was the only reason they accepted you over someone else. If there is at least a slightest chance of getting a passing grade, I would not risk it.
@lenocturne I contacted Admissions, and they gave me permission to drop it with a W. and told me I am still eligible for admission. Why is that? isn’t that a pre-req (My last one lol) with cold blood they tell me I can drop it and still be admitted. If I got their permission is that something I should trust?
Appreciate it
@yoyo1995 Do you remember what exactly they said? Just to be on the safe side, I would email them, asking to confirm that you can drop and still be admitted. If they do confirm, you will have a written confirmation from them.
@lenocturne In the email they replied to me with this, " Thank You (After they requested my ID). You can drop Math7A with a “W” and still be eligible for admission. If you have any additional questions feel free to contact us, good luck on your courses" That’s what exactly the email stated. That was directly from the admission office.
