UC prompt #2

Any improvements?

Prompt: discuss a quality or accomplishment that is important to you. What about this quality makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

I am a lifelong vegetarian. Initially this was my parents’ decision, but I recognized at a young age that I wished to personally pursue this path in life. I committed to vegetarianism because of the health benefits it provides, my desire to live a life with minimal environmental impact, and my deep beliefs against contributing to inhumane animal suffering and cruelty.
Fortunately, I have always been healthy. I primarily attribute my wellbeing to applying a vegetarian lifestyle. I have had plenty of energy and sustainable stamina that enabled me to thrive as an accomplished dancer. My previous team is nationally renowned. I have competed in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York and have received titles in each. Being accepted onto the varsity dance team as a freshman was a reward for my prior efforts. Soon, instead of focusing mainly on dance, I began to understand the importance of education. Academically, I have the vigor to consistently improve while balancing my time with extracurricular activities. Between dance and musical theater, time management is critical, however my academic performance has not only been exceptional but also has shown growth throughout the years. I am in the top fifteen percent of my senior class. I believe that a vegetarian diet provides the energy and stamina to excel but more importantly gives clarity of mind that can improve academic performance.
My appreciation for nature is endless because I have backpacked in the Eastern Sierras, rock climbed in Yosemite, and whitewater rafted several rivers. I am also scuba certified. These experiences, combined with my new interests for the environment from taking AP Environmental Science, heightened my desire to protect our earth. As I learned more about the environmental impacts of common modern day living, my commitment to vegetarianism strengthened as I correlated personal eating habits with the overall heath of our planet.
I have always had a love for animals and never believed them to be any less deserving than humans. Although they do not acquire the same sense of reasoning, they are intelligent beings that do feel pain, fear, and loss. I refuse to contribute to animal suffering. Consuming animals is unnecessary and, from a vegetarian standpoint, inhumane. I am proud that, through my diet, I have minimized animal harm.
Being a vegetarian is one of the most effective ways of living as it promotes overall wellbeing, protects our environment, and mitigates animal cruelty. My choice to be a vegetarian has given me the courage and confidence to believe in my convictions and myself. As I continue to see my elevated strength and strong mental clarity progress, I further understand the important relationship of vegetarianism and creating awareness in all aspects of life. I know I can be a positive role model to others considering my achievements while incorporating a vegetarian diet have not only surprised myself of the extent my body and mind can go, but also inspired others to adopt a healthier way of living.
