hey guys,
just wondering how you're doing on your essays.i have a few questions about them:
1. People( students and teachers) tell me that it's good to write your hardships in the essay. However, I was just wondering how much (what portion) you should write. I don't want it to be just a big summary of my life. number one, its boring .number two, uncreative number three it's not gonna score me any big points with the ucs.
2. the first prompt states: What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities and what you have gained from your involvement.

my major's econ. what if I haven't had any experience in that field? truthfully, I chose econ because it interests me. If i had alot of experience, I wouldn't be where I am now. Also, what kind of answer would stimulate the reader and make you stand out? any suggestions?

p.s. thanks to all those ppo in this forum that spend so much time answering questions and helping us out. thanks!

There are a handful of different and very unique ways to approach the personal statement. What your peers and teachers have suggested is only one of the many ways to take on the essay. Here are some tips I can give you, as I mentioned in the PM I sent you last night, I am no expert - I speak from my experience and my research.

Your goal for prompt #1 should be to establish your MOTIVATION. Why is Economics interesting to you? What have you done to pursue/develop your interest? Your not required to participate in internships, work, clubs, etc - however, these activities are important because they ultimately DEVELOP your interest and SHOW the reader your interest and passion.

Try to have a THEME to your personal statements.

Develop a story. Make your story unique. Identity isn't a universal definition that can applied to everyone. From the thousands of members on CC you are unique and NO ONE is like you. Take advantage of that.

The most important tip I can give you is to start early and submit your drafts to as many people you can. The more readers that edit your paper the better your paper will turn out, some might even stimulate you to produce bigger and better ideas. (I've been through so many drafts, I've already lost count.)

Try to stimulate your thought process, ask yourself "When did my interest for Economics begin?" "What do I like about it?" "What can I do with a degree in Economics?" Think about your past and future.

This should be of much help.

it is thanks!
the problem is..i don't know why i like econ.truthfully i find it very interesting and love studying it.however i cannot write an essay about it.HELP

That's something I, nor anyone else on this board can help you with... If you have an interest for the subject matter, you should be able to talk about it - otherwise, it seems as if you lack the interest.
