i'm just a little curious. everyone seems to think that being a CA resident gives you an edge when you're applying to UCs. does it really matter that much?

UC admission is harder for out of state because its a public school. Since they're public they want to make it primarily for in state students hence the higher requirements for eligibility and the out of state tuition.

UC publicly states residency is an admission factor.

youve got to be kidding me. why do you think every UC is 70% in-state? every public uni is. thats the point.

coopertemplegrl,

Except for Michigan, which is around 65% in-state. Not a huge difference, but much lower than the UCs.

I'm relieved that it's like that, actually. Not only am I a CA resident, but as I was browsing the "actual results" thread, a person with ckufing awesome stats--better than mine, at any rate--was rejected from Berkeley; I got a bit worried, then saw that she was OOS.
