UC ranking

Did you get them all together to play Jeopardy! or something?

Come on now, they are both fine schools. In fact I almost attended UCI, before I got accepted to UCSD.

Prestige this and prestige that.

Something tells me twenty years from now none of us will give a crap about whether UCI>UCSD or 1. UCB gap 2. UCLA

Rankings are extremely petty and unfair. We all have better things to do. Though I guess I can only speak for myself.

This thread is hilarious. Large organizations spend huge amounts of time and consider an enormous number of factors when ranking universities, and those rankings are, in most ways, meaningless. Yet people here are really trying to argue that their 10-line run down is the bestest. Anyways, here’s mine:

Berkeley/UCLA

All the rest

No problem USMC, I’m glad I could help out and set you straight.

all i want to say is… GO BEARS!

well, that settles it.

Wait, they are enrolled in two schools?!

The fact that so many people in this thread care so deeply about this is really unfortunate. I wonder how your close friends and family members feel when they are around you. Do you always try to one-up them too? Arrogance is not an attractive trait to have. When you get out into the workplace it will almost always backfire on you, so good luck with that.

I think people are happy based on their own personalities and their ability to select a school that works for them, rather than any “happiness” ranking contingent on the school itself.

That’s true. Another (admittedly crappy) way of judging student happiness is to look at the alumni giving rates if you believe that this is related with how satisfied students were with their undergrad experiences. This is how the UCs ranked in alumni giving in the 2009 US News rankings:

UC Santa Barbara: 19%
UC Berkeley: 14%
UC Los Angeles: 14%
UC Irvine: 13%
UC Davis: 12%
UC San Diego: 8%

UCSC, UCR, and UCM weren’t ranked.

1) If you want an urban-like feeling: Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UCR
2) If you like beaches and surfing: UCSB, UCSC, UCSD, UCLA
3) If you like to party: Anywhere. You’ll find parties no matter where you go.

But then I hope you don’t choose a school based on how close it is to a beach.

In every campus, you’ll find people that fits your interest and personality. So choosing a school based on personality is lame. Each of the UC school is very diverse, there isn’t one defining personality for each. Just because you like to party doesn’t mean UCI won’t be “partying” enough. Just because you are more reserved type doesn’t mean UCSB will be too wild for you. You’ll find your fit no matter where you go.

The fact is, once you enroll at any UC, you’ll find friends of your interest, you’ll find places to hang out, you’ll find parties, and you’ll find things you like. Unless you are a surf freak (which requires beach), you will most likely live a very similar lifestyle no matter where you go. Just because you go to UCSB doesn’t mean you’ll automatically become a party animal. And just because you go to UCSD doesn’t mean you’ll suddenly be rid of all social skill and become a social deviant (sorry UCSD, that’s just the running joke around here :)).

The only people that aren’t happy in their campus suffer from inferiority complex still lost in the thought of not getting into their first choice school, thus thinking of transferring the moment they first put their footstep on the campus their freshman year.

Just an update, Santa Cruz and Riverside were actually ranked in alumni giving, with Santa Cruz at 12% and Riverside at 8%.

Also, I do think that campuses can have pretty varied environments. I was at Davis one summer, and the social environment was quite different than what I was used to at Isla Vista (comparing IV to my summer session there to make it a fair comparison). The way the cities are laid out surrounding the campus can also have a big impact.

I actually do have an idea how talented the students are at UCI. They’re the ones who are more talented than the students at UCM, UCR, UCSC, equally talented to UCD, UCSB, and less talented than UCSD, UCLA, and UCB. I know many people that go to both UCI and UCSD too and the students at UCSD blow THEM outta the water. No comparison.

No they do not. UCI students are more intelligent than UCSD students.

UCI is just the worst at reading rankings. They’re good at other stuff though, like rationalization.

wow…I didnt know so many people were so passionate about UCI. hahah.

I think its all about personal preferences.

In the end its all personal preference. Kids who live in/near Irvine rather go to SD and kids go live in/near SD rather go to Irvine. In the end, all the same opportunities exist.

Rofl what a dumb comparison. How can you say UCI students are smarter then UCSD. You know every UCI and UCSD and have done IQ tests on them? How can you say that with pretty much little to no proof.

ok just an FYI UC’s are ranked upon your major, some schools are better for certain majors.

At undergrad level, ranking of the school’s program and major doesn’t really matter unless it’s a professional program (i.e. Business). It’s at graduate level where the quality and the prestige of the program really starts to come into play.

NEW rankings after discovering how stupid some UCI students are from this forum.

UCB
UCLA
(gap)
UCSD
(gap)
UCD
UCSB
(gap)
UCSC
(gap)
UCR
UCM
(gap)
SDSU
CSULB
(gap)
UCI

I’m basing these rankings on how the students from Irvine in these forums can’t seem to understand their schools place in the UC system rankings even after EVERY credible source has been given to them to back it up…this makes me question UCI students ability to comprehend information. Having school pride is one thing, being arrogant and annoying is another…I can tell you’re one of those d.ouchebag kids that make me ashamed to be from Orange County…MTV ruined our county…I can also guarantee you say, “Yeah bra, I go to skool (not a typo) in the OC!”-hoping that would impress people. I’ve lost respect I had for Anteaters…stop making your school/your county of residence look bad. For this reason alone, UCI should be demoted to CSU Irvine.
