Don't worry about it. UCD's not as hard to get into as UCSD - you'll probably get in there with a 3.5 GPA.

I would call UCSD immediately to find out what they didn't like about your app; then you can think about your chances at the other schools.

I don't think Davis is "easier" than UCSD; it depends on a lot of things. Their average gpa for Fall 2005 was .02 points higher than UCSD's.

Are there any new rejection??

Hey Tom, When was your application submitted in November? I submitted mine like 2 days before the deadline and have not heard back yet. I wonder if they make decisions in the order they were received.

Today, I finally called the UCSD and asked why I was rejected with 3.5 GPA in Economic Major. The addmission officer told me that it was because I didn't finish any calculus class when I applied in Nov. Moreover, I didn't try to take them in fall quarter. They tended to think that I was trying to avoid them. They doubted if I could finish them. Oh ! My God ! It was the reason they rejected me. I told them I could finish two of my calculus classes before spring (I need 4 in my major), the officer said I could appeal with my winter transcript. He said my chance would be greater if I could show that I can finish at least two of them. I asked if I got priority since I am a reentry student, I am 29 and I got married. The answer was "YES", but only if I could show my ability to finish all of my major requiremtns and IGET. But, I didn't when they first look at my application. Anyway, the officer told me that my appeal will mostly be success. I don't know if it is a good news to me or not.
By the way, I applied on Mid-Nov

you need FOUR calc classes for econ!?! omg...

So the notion that major prep is not taken into consideration is false. My transfer counselor told me that it was, so I was baffled when I had heard that it was not. I was also told by my couselor that they only push pre-req's when a major is impacted. I would assume that econ is impacted since it is in the top 10 nationally.

i am also an econ major at UCSD, and its 1.5 years of calc... i guess its 4 for you because your in the quarter system.

Econ is not listed as being impacted by UCSD on assist.org, however when i was applying my councelors did tell me that they looked at major prep... but since i am actually in San diego, the community collegs here offer a guranteed admission to UCSD, and that part of it requires 2 out of 3 calc classes anyways.

I think so. They do take major prep into account. I hope my appeal can be success. Did you finish your one calculus before you applied ? Or, you were at least taking it on Nov. The officer told me they would like to see that instead of nothing else like me. If you did, then, don't worry ! you will be fine because you got a priority. This is what the officer told me.

i am in calc 3 right now (the last one in my CC) ... i was in calc 2 when i applied for fall06, but i had guranteed admission.

Anyways, you know if youapplyto International Econ, it doesnt have that many calc requriements???

appeal for that major if you definatley want to go to UCSD,

Thank you for your advice. I think I need to mention that in my appeal letter. However, I am afraid I will go nowhere in fall because I think the UCs I applied are treating me like UCSD.

do you list calc as a planned course when you updated pathways?

maybe for the 3 schools that have not based their decision yet, you should email them and update of your planned work , including the calclus courses, then it wont be too late ... especially for UCD, just so you have a backup.

Yes, I did list them. However, UCSD still rejected me. You know what, I mentioned that in my statement as well.

hmmmmm thats weird, i mean if they see you have it planned .. then how can they tell you they rejected you for not doing it? i mean i see what they mean by "if you appeal with grades" then most likely you will get in, but why would they assume that you WOULD NOT take it and pass it , rather then you would?

based on what they told you, i would think that it seems more appropriate to give you provisional acceptance, advising you that if you dit NOT finish the calc courses you had planned they would revoke your admission.

just my though, thats what iwould do if i was an adcom

Oh ! I never thought of this question. You are right, why did they assume me would not pass ? It seems hard to understand their rules. Maybe, I should change my focus on UCD even thought I love UCSD more.

^what you love about UCSD?

i visited that campus in january because i had to drop of my transcript .. (for my spring admission thing) .. anyhow.. i HATE that campus, its soooo ugly.

maybe i hate it because i actually went there the day after i flew in from NYC, i dont know if thatplayed a part or not, but i just HATE IT!!!!
its also about 10 min from myhouse, that could also be a reason.
but i think its UGLY

Umm, I'm an econ major, and I only had to take 2 calc classes to transfer....(meaning two semesters of Calc).

i agree. it's not really ugly as in its just a dirt mound with brick buildings or anything like that, but the atmosphere and the campus didn't excite me at all and i was rather turned off how sparse and spread out the campus looked (i went to my friend's graduation down there last year)

Are there any news from UC's?? Admit/Reject
