UC Regents

Regents is one of the most prestigious scholarships in the UC system. Few of the top candidates admission get it and it is mostly based on academic success and student potential. I know that ucla and berkley will expand the regent scholarship to full tuition if the student demonstrates need, but do lower UCs like santa cruz also expand to full tution? Also would the regents also cover the out of state fee for students if they get it and demonstrate financial need?
Thanks for any responses :-bd

Have you called the UC’s you are interested in and asked?

I have tried, but Im always put on a long hold so i thought asking people on college confidential would be easier. I also really want to know people’s personal experiences with it

UC Santa Cruz Regents is $5000/year.

I have only ever heard of Regents covering 2 to 10k. I know a student who received 10k from UCR. Regents does not give full scholarships to my knowledge. However the UCs will meet demonstrated need for accepted students in many circumstances, most based on being instate and low income, although OOS can potentially get need based aid. OOS students do not get need aid to cover the 23k of OOS tuition charged.

If you need financial aid UCSD Regents will cover more than $2k per year, maybe the whole tuition.

I’ve never seen anyone say that an OOS student got Regents that covers the OOS portion or tuition.

Also, it is much more difficult to even get Regents as an OOS student.

The Regents award is a merit award, based on academics and personal qualities and accomplishments. If you have financial need, you may also get need based aid. And you can get need aid (or not) regardless of Regents.
