I was rejected from all of the schools that I applied to, even from my safety schools. I only applied to 4 UCs(UCB, UCI, UCSD, UCD) and 6 privates. I understand why I was rejected from the private schools, but not some of the UCs, since irvine and davis were my safety schools. I was waitlisted at UCSD. I come from a top ranked public high school and most of my friends are going to ivy league schools. But what happened to me? I had a good personal statement and I'm assuming a pretty strong application, but things didn't go as planned... I'm an asian female so this might have made it more difficult, but I thought I could at least get into my safety schools. i guess my questions is, is this happening to others? are uc schools rejecting a lot more people this year? my friend got into nyu and bu but was rejected from davis...

GPA unweighted:3.7
SAT: 1940
ACT: 34
APs: 6 (chem, bio, calc ab, gov, lit, lang)
extracurriculars: varsity tennis, marching band, wind ensemble, lots of volunteering

I’m sorry to hear that! Yes, it was a weird year for the UCs at my school. Santa Barbara didn’t accept anyone who had under a 4.0; a good (and very intelligent) friend of mine got waitlisted at Davis; one girl got waitlisted at SD but accepted at Cal… As far as overall trends go, I think the UCs looked more at objective stats than essays and ECs. Perhaps it was your numbers - but honestly, you’ll never know.

Do you have any sort of safety or fallback? There are still schools you can apply to now, or you can take a gap year and reapply.

The usual route after getting shut out is to go to community college, do well there, and try again as a transfer, assuming UCs and/or CSUs are your targets.

There’s still some time to appeal if you want to try, though it would be useless if you don’t have anything new. I’m also in the same kind of situation you’re in :(

If you are a CA resident and are in the top 9% then you are guaranteed a spot at a UC campus, usually it turns out to be Riverside or Merced. Top 8% is determined by a matrix of GPA and SAT. See [University of California - Statewide path](http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/california-residents/admissions-index/)

my daughter is from WA and surprisingly got into all her UC schools but didn’t have the same success in her east coast schools, which is her first choice. she did get into NYU though , UCSD, UCLA and UC Berkeley

sorry about that. we are asian female, similar GPA but higher SAT scores (2280). not wanting you to feel bad though - just sharing info. oh, and her UC essays were my favorites of the ones I read for her college apps. varsity athlete, international school backround

can you apply late to some additional schools?
