Ok, lets say that I got a D in Adv English 9 and a D in my Adv history class during Freshmen year in a semester. During sophomore year, I get a B in Adv English 10 and a A in AP World History in a semester. Do they actually care about the Ds in Freshmen year or not?

I think as long as you pass...you're ok...

In theory, they don't consider freshmen year important when they look at how you did as a whole. They accept the student you are, not one that you were. However, I think they do have a 3.0 (3.4 for non-resident applicants) GPA requirement so be sure to check in on that.

UC/CSU GPA does not include freshman year...and they don't look at freshman grades. You'll be fine.

UC's and CSU's only consider sophomore and junior year grades.

i should be worried considering i got a d in trig first semester this year (im a junior), but i had really bad depression issues at the same time. but my grades right now are really good!

Actually, the UC's do look at 9th grade grades and the grades in any high school classes taken as a 7th or 8th grader. The grades are not used in calculating the UC GPA; only 10th and 11th grade grades are used. IMO, the OP should strive for all A's from here on out and take the most rigorous coursework he can handle. The D's may be overlooked if there is a strong upward trend with maybe a B or two but nothing lower.

Ok, that's good as long as I do a lot better over the next few years. I slacked off pretty badly during freshmen year. Good thing I choose to take 3 AP classes next year and not opt-out of them.
