Uc residency

Hello! I’m an incoming senior in high school and I’m planning to apply to UCSD, as well as other UCs. My situation is a little complicated so please bear with me.

My dad moved to California on February 2013 to work here and my mom, siblings, and I followed him in July of the same year. I’ve studied in a california high school for a year now and will be graduating this upcoming school year(class of 2015). My dad is planning to move to the East coast around February of next year to work there and during that time, he would be paying taxes to the state he’ll work in. I will be staying here with my mom and siblings until I graduate. After graduation, the rest of my family will follow my dad to the East coast while I stay here in California for college, if I get accepted and considered a California resident. I am financially dependent on my dad and my mom currently doesn’t work. With my situation, will I be considered a nonresident and be required to pay the fee? I can’t put myself as independent because well, I’m not. It would be a dream come true to study at a UC, however, even if I get acepted, it wouldn’t be possible if I have to pay an extra fee.

My understanding is, if you spent at least a year or to in, and graduated from, a California HS, your good. I’m pretty sure it’s spelled out on the website.

Oops! Looks like it’s THREE years. But just graduating from a California school works too.

After that, if your parents don’t live together, I believe residency is determined by the parent you live with.
