Hi, first post, just have a quick question.

I'm currently a high school senior applying to a few University of California campuses. I received a D+ in math 1A at the local community college. I'm already registered to retake the class in winter, and I expect to pass, but are my chances at admission in jeopardy? I emailed all of the campuses to which I applied explaining my question, but I don't expect a reply until after New Years.

Anyone have any advice as to what to do next besides retaking the course and contacting admissions? Or can anyone speak from experience about whether or not my chances will be affected if I retake the class and pass?

Thanks

Is the community college course replacing a math class that you would normally take at your high school? I’m not sure how failing CC courses factors into admission consideration, but as a general rule, you’re obligated to report a failing grade to each UC campus you applied to.

Is there a special reason why you failed, like a hardship, illness, family problem, etc.? If there is, then you can explain the situation to admissions, so that they’re aware of what affected your performance. And explain that you’re retaking the course, too, so that they can see you’re making an effort to make up for the original grade.

You should wait for the response from the various campuses, but it would also be a good idea for you to look at this (go to step 3):
[After you apply | UC Admissions](http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/after-you-apply/index.html)

Each of the admission offices for the campuses you applied to should have the same protocol posted on their website, so check that too.

Ok, thanks for the help. I’ll also talk to my counselor when school resumes.

Some more info: I’m concurrently enrolled in CC, so the math class replaces whatever calc class I’d be taking at my home campus. Also, I explained that I’m retaking the class.

I’d appreciate any other feedback that anyone else has.
