@Vivi182 you can apply for both! I just got an apartment
@alchemistress did you apply before the deadline? I just want to make sure I get some sort of housing
Still haven’t received my financial aid package, but got the cal grant email. Hoping my package is posted soon.
@Vivi182 I applied May 20th and got a housing offer the next day
@alchemistress thanks! I called and they were able to make me an offer
@hbanana I’m driving down from San Fran tomorrow! Headed to the Huntington Beach for memorial day shinanigans, then riverside tomorrow night. Touring the school Tuesday. If there’s anyone who wants to join the tour let me know!
Does anyone know if there is still housing available for transfer students and how much it is ?
Can anyone tell me how they notify you or offer you housing? I applied and I was wondering where to look.
@jdsam23 apply for housing and right after call them and ask what’s available and they’ll let you know and send you the housing contract
@Keylimepeel it should be in the same place as the application. Just google ucr housing application and select apply for apartments and it should take you to the login
For those of you who chose UCR over UCSC, may I ask why? I already SIR’d to UCSC, but now I’m a little unsure.
@StarKai I too was deciding between UCR and UCSC. My decision came solely on education program strength between the two schools. I’m a bioengineering major and compiled a list of upper division courses with their descriptions, just because its nice to see the big picture laid out right in front of you. I liked the course strength and breadth offered by UCR. Also UCR is ABET accredited for bioengineering where as UCSC is not. I even looked into jobs within my field in anticipation for internships and job opportunities after college. Both amount of jobs and pay is better in southern California versus the bay area. UCSC is in a prime location and is still a great school but as I compared academics, for my particular major, jobs for after college, UCR was an obvious choice. I am trading off a prime location in SC versus to what I believe to be a better curriculum. So if you think you may have made a mistake, its not too late. Research and information is your best friend when it comes time for making decisions. Ultimately, find out what you want from your college experience, and go get it!
@starkali UCR was actually my #1 since I was in high school until one of my CC counsellors told me about the different options from then on UCSC was my first choice and I even tagged but it got rejected so when I got accepted without TAG I was so happy! I really wanted to go there but didn’t want to SIR before I visited. So I did last week, I really liked it but some of the things there are super far away from each other and I’m from SoCal so I like super hot weather. Also the school is about 6 hours from where I live and seeing how long it was kinda turned me away from it. Also my boyfriend and I want to get a place and Santa Cruz is really expensive compared to Riverside. I heard from a Santa Cruz student that it’s hard to get classes there. Overall I just picked UCR because it’s closer and cheaper for me hopefully that helps!
@starkali im transfering from ucsc to ucr, and yes, classes are extremely hard to get and everything here is overpriced
@taffylaffy Do you think classes are easier to get for upperclassmen? For my major (Feminist Studies), I’m thinking that UCSC will be the best choice. I’m also looking to complete a senior thesis and do research prior to grad school, which I heard is easier to do at UCSC. I’m only a little conflicted because of UCSC’s weather and the overcrowding. I’m also wondering if I would prefer UCR’s culture and campus… So conflicted.
@starkali the weather at ucsc is usually cold and chilly and “misty and moist.” Hmmm, I am not quite sure about the difficulty of getting classes as an upperclassmen; however, I would assume it is easier since they get priority first. As for your major, I have a co worker whose major is also Feminist Studies and this is her fifth year. Not sure if the major is impacted or not though!
UCSC is very liberal. If you are a nature loving person, this ucsc might be for you. I personally dont like the weather here and the dorms here are very old and smelly
@jasonb511 How did you find out that bioengineering isn’t abet accredited at USCS ?
@egriselle I don’t think registration is open yet
@imagnetismi Congratulations!!!
