UC Riverside Class of 2025 — Regular Decision Date: March

I’m going to need to get a job off campus but freshman aren’t allowed to have cars. Is there a student bus line or any other method? I’m not keen on biking because Ive heard the area around campus is sketchy

Why off campus for a job? There should be plenty of on-campus jobs in which you could apply, just start early.

Unless things have changed, Freshman are allowed cars just not recommended due to the limited parking.

I just got in off the waitlist :hushed: this makes things a lot more complicated!

Same here - makes it very complicated (better OOS school vs in-state tuition).

Is it better to go to orientation for your specific college such as CNAS which is on the 22nd or would the orientation for all colleges on the earlier date of the 15th work too?

When will be the next set of waitlist decisions out ? looks like Riverside has extended the SIR to May 14th

Is there any chance of not getting on-campus Freshman housing if you apply by May 10?

I am trying to decide between UCR or SLO for biomed engineering. I’d love some advise. I prefer the location of UCR but wonder if SLO will offer better academics and opportunities. Is the engineering program just as good as SLO? I hear the UCR engineering program is rising in the ranks.

@SameerPao so nice of you to give your perspective. My son declined UCR (CS major), and will go to CalPoly Pomona (CS major).

In more recent news, it seems UCR managed to preserve its sports program. I think the UC system is not fair to certain campuses, Riverside among them, but budget cuts are by no means settled. The fight continues.

Either way, I hope your son is happy with his choice. Barring waiting lists, UCR looked like the best choice for mine and he seems content with the outcome.

Yes thank you. To each his own. We’re lucky to have good choices. Given that our kids have reached this far up to this point, they’ll do well and will bloom whichever college they’ll go, as long as they keep pushing on their goals.

On the subject of UCR, I was Googling today and found this LA Times article from 1990! It’s about how long-neglected UCR is on the upswing again. This looks like an on-going cycle, and I will add that when I first heard of Riverside, it was in the 90s and I just thought of them as another UC (well I was on the east coast and what did I know?). I am just hoping the pendulum swings back in time for my son to benefit. There is no excuse for letting any UC deteriorate. They’re part of California’s commitment to all residents.

Hi everyone, incoming bio major, the MAE practice exams are kicking my butt :sob::confused::flushed:. If I’m not able to place into Math 9A or 7A does that mean I can’t be a bio major anymore? Or will that extend my college time? I really want to complete my degree in 4 years

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I see (from the course catalog) these are both intro calculus courses. How much math did you complete in high school? Would it help to do some preparation over the summer? Like besides practice tests, do Khan academy or similar?

If you get a low placement from the MAE exam you may have to start with Math 6A then 6B before moving to the Math 9A or 7A. It might put you behind in the Math sequence by 2 quarters but you can make it up by taking 1 or 2 classes during summer session.

has anyone heard about housing assignment yet?

Is it a good idea to prepare hard and get the highest MAE possible, then start with a stretched math level, or start with the “real” level and more likely to score a “A”?

Does anyone know if it’s possible to get an extension on SIR after the deadline has past? I got off the waitlist a while ago but am rethinking my decision. The deadline was May 21st for me. Is it possible or am I out of luck?
