UC Riverside, CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton, or El Camino Community College

I was waitlisted to UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, and UC Santa Cruz, but for now I am only accepted to UCR, CSULB, and CSUF. I have to accept a university by May 1, but I'm not sure what to do. I'm not really happy with any of those 3 colleges but I would really like to leave home and start being more independent. However, I don't want to waste money on colleges that I'm only going to be transferring out of in 2 years. So, out of UCR, CSULB, and CSUF, which has the best program for psychology, social life, class availability, and the friendliest student body, or do you think I should go to community college and wait a couple years to transfer into a better college and save some money?

Going to a CC would be an option if indeed you had “no” other options. That’s not your situation. Academically and long term a UC is preferred to a CSU, so UCR. Stay on the waiting lists, you may still get off, but assume in making your choice that you won’t. At worse you’d lose your deposit should you eventually get off the waiting lists and accept the place.

I’d pick the research university and go with UCR. I think they have a pretty good psychology dept and grad school so there may be opportunities for bright students to get involved in research. I think you will have good resources there if you take advantage of what is offered.
