uc riverside dorms

i was looking through the dorms for uc irvine, so i decided to start a thread here about dorms for riverside. i'm going to be a freshman in the fall (if i decide to attend ucr) and i was wondering which dorms would be recommended for freshman students. i'm kind of leaning towards pentland hills since its newer, but which dorms are better for making friends, getting to know people, etc...?

Pentland: Newest of the dorms. Very quiet and guys and girls are on separate sides. Own air/heat. No restaurant.

A-I: Traditional dorm hall. Just one straight hall down to the end. I feel like A-I gave the best dorm experience even though it's old. Hall controlled heat/cool. Has it's own restaurant.

East Lothian: Upgraded A-I. Those heavy fire doors for each room kinda hinders the social experience. Own air/heat. Shares the Lothian restaurant.

West Lothian: I feel this was the worst dorm. You'll feel short in the rooms. Not as much space as the others dorms. And perhaps one of the dirtiest. Shares the Lothian restaurant.

oh cool thanks for the feedback. i keep hearing different things from different people but everyone agrees that lothian is the worst dorm.

Where will the bathrooms be? One for male and one for females?

In pentland, the buildings seperate genders into one hall, and each hall has 2 bathrooms. In AI and Lothian, there will be a bathroom for each gender.

Ultimately, the social part of college all depends on you. Despite pentland being the most private, there are plenty of social people in Pentland, and there are anti-social people in Lothian or AI.

check out HighlanderForum.net .:. View topic - East Lothian vs. West Lothian to get the pros and cons of each dorm. When I took a tour of the campus, my tour guide recommended that none of us dorm at AI because he said it was the dirtiest. I'm not sure though since I couldn't actually see each dorm for myself.

does anyone know how or whre i can get a single room dorm?

Deep -

You really do not want to get a single dorm room. If you are by yourself, your going to lose the dorm room experience. Just sign up for a room with one other person and ask for that person to have the same personality, bedtime, similar wants, etc as you. You will surely have a roommate that could be a lasting friend for all your years at Riverside.

does anyone know how or whre i can get a single room dorm?

no you can't get a single room dorm until 2nd year, when you can choose to get a studio apartment instead. but as freshmans, only choice is dorm.

coo thanks

when you sign up for dorms, do you get to specify/describe the kind of dorm mate you want?

i think so. they give you a questionairre so tehy can pair you up with someone who is similar to you~

you can also say exactly who you want as a roomate if you already have someone in mind.

yeah, but i think its better to get a random roommate cus then you will be able to meet new people and make friends easier~

Can someone describe the bathrooms? For some reason this is what I'm most concerned about...

i have to say they are pretty small, cant really put too many things in there which is probably why they are pretty clean

okayy i toured the dorms today at discover day and i thought pentland & east lothian were good. but the bathrooms in pentland were better cus you only have to share it with your roommate i think, whereas the bathrooms in east lothian are communal~

anyone know where they are dorming yet?

yeah i visited the dorms today too. pentland hills was really pretty, but i didn't like how the girls and boys are separated. the buildings were new and clean. east lothian seemed more homely though, and i liked that everything was indoors compared to pentland. i'm going for east lothian :)

did u guys see west lothian? how does it compare to east lothian?
