uc riverside dorms

A triple is EXTREMELY spacey in east lo. I watched someone post a video.

yeah the west lo ones are HUGE AI are depressing

Which dorm fills up quickly?
The pros and cons of each dorm?
Which dorm offers a better social environment?

I’m currently living in East lo right now and its boring as hell there if your hall is boring. The doors close on its own and its a hassle to keep it opened. So no one has their doors open. The building is nice but I’d rather go to AI where its so much more social. when i applied i heard east lo would be the funnest one but apparantly not…

If you truly want the college experience dorm in AI. Everyone has their door open and you really get to know everyone within the first week or two. It is a really social and fun place.

If you are more to yourself then Pentland would be better. You have your own room and its pretty quite most of the time.

As for the rest I wouldn’t recommend Lothian, its old, cramped and gets pretty dirty.

i dont know if you’ve actually live in the dorms or not, but your information is a bit off. lothian is newer than AI. east lo is the newest traditional style res hall. AI is known to be the most social, but lothian is cleaner and roomier.

Is it possible to change resident halls?
I found out that I’m in West Lothian, and well… I prefer Pentland more. I’ve visited there and I like how it’s nice and spacious.

@sunnyfish: you have to email housing (housinginfo@ucr.edu) and request to be put on a waiting list for a Pentland room. If they offer you a room in Pentland, it will be after the move-in date.

Same thing happened to me, I wanted A&I, but instead I got a Pentland triple loft. I requested to be on the waiting list and about 2-3 weeks into the school year, I was offered a new room. At that point, I was used to where I was living and I did not feel like moving. Plus, they don’t tell you where your potential new room is or who your new roommate could be.

how do you guys like UCR?

Let me chime in.

I have lived in A&I, Pentland Hills, and E. Lothian. If you don’t want to read anymore, A&I is your winner if you want to meet new people. W. Lo is 2nd place, as the configuration is equal.

A&I - tall rooms, triple rooms are lofts. Dining hall is in same building. Parking is not so bad. It is old but upkeep is good. You will experience dorm life here. Doors stay open and if you make a reasonable effort to talk to others, you will meet people you will know forever. You will hear about hall gossip and affairs. These stupid things make dorm life so fun. Shared toilets and showers.

E. Lo - a bit more square footage than your typical dorm room, but since the doors close automatically, you lose the free social aspect. Bathroom is your typical shared type. Dining hall downstairs.

Pentland - small rooms, but at least you can control your room temp. Best config is the loft bed to maximize space. Showers and toilets shared with all in your mini hall of 4 rooms, but private since they are single user lockable. Social aspects die due to having a door before the rooms, so it isn’t quite so casual to just walk around and say hi.

W. Lo - stayed here for a week. Same aspects as A&I.

If I had to do it all over again, A&I all the way. The halls are a boring hallway. A straight hallway where you can see each other all the time. People will socialize and you will learn to like them. Worst thing you can do is dorm with a friend and never learn about the other 40 people that share the space with you.
