UC Riverside Fall 2020 Transfers Thread

@jt1015 oh nice, should I be nervous after not getting an email D: , i snooped around the past couple years and some recieved an email around this week, but cant be sure

Hey :raised_hand:? me again lol
So, 2018 acceptance letters started to be released on the 5th ( a Monday)
2019 acceptance letters started to be released on the 6th ( a Friday)
2020? what y’all think?

Can’t believe after all these years of me saying i’d never go to UCR & UCI being my “dream” undergrad university that I’m choosing UCR over everywhere else I was accepted. After being accepted to UCI, UCSD, & UCSB last year and touring all the campuses UCR feels like its the best option for me. ( still applied to all the schools again including UCLA who rejected me last year lol)

I know y’all didn’t ask me any of this but I needed to get it off my chest incase anyone else in this thread is feeling the same way.

@DiamondCalmDown i feel you, I’m praying everyday for all of us here lmao, personally im thinking around 3/5-3/14, sometime between then… just a bit worried since I didnt recieve a TAG approval email like the previous guy, itd suck to TAG and have it not work out

@DiamondCalmDown May I ask what made you decide UCR over the rest?

I applied to all the SoCal UCs & vowed to never move back to Riverside (I left in elementary but still) & I fell in love with OC, but am terribly nervous about UCR being my only UC option

@GoldenCaramel yes of course. I too am in love with Orange County, I love everything about it. I don’t like riverside because its hot.
I choose UCR for five reasons:

  1. Housing. I wanted the “real” college experience, living on campus, riding a bike to school yet still having my independence. At UCR I’m given the option to live in a campus apartment 1bedroom single occupancy ( so alone) whereas UCI I can only have roommates on campus. The closest apartments to UCI didn’t give me the feel I was looking for + they are a little far. UCI is a bit secluded (kinda)
  2. Feeling welcomed & supported. UCR seems more inclusive IMO, there are multiple offices for different ethnicities to help one get through college. UCI has a couple but… I’ll just not say too much about that.
  3. The Campus. Oddly UCR & UCI’s campus looks the same to me from the inside but once on campus I felt more comfortable at UCR. UCLA & UCSB have the best campuses IMO
  4. Loma Linda University. I’m going to be an Oral Surgeon, Loma Linda University has a dental school & they are close to riverside so I plan to go up there every so often to try to get my name out there. Closest dental school to UCI is either dtla or pamona (far).
  5. Price. Orange County is expensive as heck. I don’t want to pay a lot of money for an apartment in undergrad as you can see I still have 1,000 years of college ahead of me.

Oh forgot you said " The rest".
UCLA denied me
UCSD gave me my 2nd major. Oh & my friend goes there and hates it. We are the same major & she feels she’s only paying for the UCSD name. She wish she choose UCR. says the professors are a joke.
UCSB is beautiful but too secluded for me

so, Id say figure out what’s important to you, weigh your options, tour the campus, ask questions. Whatever option you choose make it count. I know UCR is looked down on but im willing to go the extra mile to make my “resume”? lol look amazing.

@vlimit imo, i don’t think you should be worried that you didn’t receive a tag approval email since looking at ucr’s tag requirements, you are eligible. maybe ucr is still sending the tag approval emails out? in that case, try to be patient i suppose. honestly, i don’t know why you haven’t gotten that email yet especially since decisions are coming out soon. that really sucks :frowning:

@GoldenCaramel what are your stats? if you don’t mind sharing them, of course!

@vlimit So I called them and they told me that they don’t send out tag approvals all at once, they are rolling just like the apps are. I’m CS just like you, tagged, and I didn’t get anything. My guess is they’re still working on it.

They also requested my transcripts like a week ago so that may also slow it down on my end.

@transfer6091 That’s probably a good sign you’re in because I haven’t gotten any email from them asking for my transcripts.

Well to be more specific it was a generic UC email, but I suspect UCR requested it because my major GPA is on the border of getting an auto deny so my guess is they wanted to double check I was good to go. (or at least this is what I tell myself lol.)

I am in the same situation, I am a bioengineering major and I did not receive a tag approval email due to an error in the transfer of coursework from the tap website to my official application so it put me out of the tag requirements. So I contacted my UCR counselor and she sent me an email to upload my unofficial transcripts which I did yesterday. I called her again today and she said the TAG emails are still going out and that I may still receive one once they go over my tag application with the update. And since I had to update with my transcripts it’ll probably take a bit more time to hear back. I hope this helps someone!

@aminipop so the transfer academic update (TAU) didn’t update? how did you check that, I may want to do that too, since I finished a pre req in the fall with an A. i submitted the TAU so it should be fine right? or should i check the TAP application

did anyone tell you that there was an error? i just checked my TAP, and it still says my fall 2019 is in progress, but on my uc app it says I submitted the TAU on January correctly.

You can go look at your TAU on the UC app website I’m pretty sure.

yeah it says its submitted… am i good? lol

Honestly, I just feel like there is a bigger influx of CS applications, so they tend to do us last, I could be wrong about that though. I know for sure my stuff was correct, I have a 3.04 UC GPA and a 2.82 major GPA. If you get below a 2.8 you’re denied, so in my case I am 99% sure they wanted to make sure I was above 2.8 lol. AFAIK tag is based off of UC gpa so I should be good to go.

@vlimit No no I had a different situation like I retook a class and it did not show the A received its a complicated situation. But my main point was they are going to continue to send TAG confirmations.

@DiamondCalmDown I grew up in a place far more hot than Riverside, so that’s not even a concern of mine lolol but I spent years working in OC and did enjoy the weather despite always being the only person shivering everyday cuz I’m weak

Living ALONE is super important to me. I prefer a solo apartment, but wouldn’t mind a 2bed with 1 person per bedroom. I certainly don’t want to live with a couple in the other room that argues or whatever. It’s hard to find quality roommates & I like my living space to be very neat + tidy + peaceful.

I have a lot of friends in OC & my best friend is down the street from UCI. I always feel like I’m instantly in a good mood when I go visit OC. I don’t mind a little commute because I already did the On-Campus experience and it was barely a benefit to me at the time, although I would enjoy it to do it again ONLY if I could have mt bedroom privacy. I absolutely refuse being in a triple (which UCLA will do).

I had a coworker who went to UCSD and she said the professors always seemed too busy to be bothered. I think they still have great research opportunities though, which is why the profs are busy probably

I don’t do the whole spill your stats thing. I’ve seen so many unexpected things happen (both positive & negative) to ppl who thought they would or wouldn’t get a school

I completed all Lower Division in Fall & taking extra classes rn.

Major: Linguistics

Completed a Intro Ling course, & 5 foreign language courses of three different language families (Romance, Germanic, Asian) + I have all the correct GEs for lower division core-related.

Now, I wait…

Hey! Are you guys looking at your unofficial transcripts for your Gpa? If so, why does it say overall gpa and UC Transfer gpa? Sorry I’m a first generation so this is ALL new to me
