Can anybody explain this to me in full detail? I was UC eligible in high school and want to apply as a lower division for Computer Engineering. I have credit for AP Calculus AB and BC already. Would I have to complete all general education and major prereqs. before I apply? Or would I finish the rest at UC Riverside since I would be transferring in only after 1 year. Is lower division hard? Also thinking about lower division for UC Merced. I'm also transferring from a CSU by the way but plan on taking CC courses at a CC. (Dual enrolling)

On the matrix at <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors; they say Riverside would accept lower-division transfer students if space permits. I’d be willing to bet that there is not space in Engineering since it is a major in high demand, but of course I don’t know for sure. Call the Riverside admissions office and ask.

As a general observation, admission to any Engineering major at a UC campus is competitive. If you don’t qualify as a CC xfer student (there are requirements about how many units you must have earned at a CC, how many semesters you were enrolled, etc – speak with a counselor for specifics) then you will get lower priority than CC students. This may make the difference between getting in or not.

mikemac, thank you for your response. I emailed a UC Transfer counselor and they told me they are not sure whether they are accepting lower division applications yet and told me to contact them this November. Any particular reason for this? The matrix does say they do accept it, so I am confused. I contacted UC Merced and they said the same thing as well.
