Admitted into UC Riverside pre-business and Chapman business.
Chapman awarding decent merit but will be $65K more over than UCR 4 years. Money is not the only deciding factor fortunately. Attended class at Chapman and really liked it. Also liked the campus and vibe.
Parents will support my choice. I am confused !!
UCR…they have a ranked business school whereas Chapman doesn’t, so you would have a lot of resources ahead of you
Have you visited UCR as well?
I only would go to Chapman over UCR if you have some compelling reason
Unless your parents have the means to fund Chapman without disrupting their retirement and not incurring debt, it is really hard to justify the cost difference. My vote would be UCR.
My main concern is UCR does not accept directly into Business. A 2-year Pre-Business is mandatory after which you apply to the Business school.
I would also like to hear thoughts on private vs public education for business major.
the Pre-major thing is pretty common at CA publics. For some programs, like nursing, it is very competitive to get to the next level. For others like Biz, you have to take a series of classes and maintain a GPA (i think UCR’s threshold id below 3.0) if you aren’t there, you probably should study something else anyway…
Private vs public is all about the bill and your ability to pay. If you have the means, or earn a scholarship they can be a great option. Here in CA though, the CSU system is very good, particularly at business, making the price tag hard to rationalize. At full rate, they are 2x-3x in state tuition… for most people, the value isn’t there.
