This is for my cousin. He's been accepted to San Jose State and Arizona State with a scholarship. I think he'll probably get into UC Riverside. He also applied to UC Irvine and Santa Clara which might be reaches for him. We live in the SF Bay area.

San Jose State has good accounting program and it might be cheaper if he can live at home. However, Arizona State might provide more of the college experience.

It seems like ASU is the best choice prestige wise, but he would have more support if he went to San Jose State, and it might be easier to get through San Jose State. What do you think?

I find it hard to understand why many students these days are looking for the “easiest” schools instead of the schools where they will learn the most.

hard do understand

Accounting is one of those fields that ranking matters less. If the student wants to work/live in bay area after graduation, don’t overlook the internship/job opportunities in bay area and SJSU is right there.

I sort of have that same thinking that employers in the bay area like SJSU more than ASU because there are way more SJSU alumni than ASU alumni in the bay area.

Has your cousin heard back from Santa Clara? A friend of mine teaches accounting at both SCU and SJSU. He says there’s no comparison when it comes to the attention, engagement and effort of the students at both universities: Santa Clara students are head and shoulders above those at SJSU.

Just one data point.

Oops, how did I miss Santa Clara in OP’s post. If cost is not an issue, definitely Santa Clara.

ASU and SJSU are better than UC Riverside for prestige. A lot of employers take SJSU seriously as well.

^Good point. Point taken. I spoke from regional prestige which i suppose only mattered in the city itself.
