UC Riverside vs. UC Irvine

The trailer park at UCI was only for grad students, and they really liked it because it was super cheap housing. I think many of them were only paying a couple hundred a month for their trailer space. They got rid of it to build new buildings and parking lots (basically appeasing the wants and needs of the masses).

Mean Riverside jokes aside, UCI is better in every aspect than UCR. THe students at UCR could not get into any other UC's, and that is why they are there

How about the people in Bio med that got into every UC and yale? How about the people getting full rides and are in the honors program? How about the business majors who preferred UCR over Berkeley, or couldn't get into Berkeley, but wanted to study business anyway? Where is UCI's business school. Does UCI send 20 kids to UCLA med every year? Where is UCI's creative writing program for undergraduates?

Stop being so idiotic about UCR. UCR is better than UCI in many ways. 40% of UCR grads go to grad school. What can be said of UCI? UCR students, on average, get more attention than UCI students. But no, UCI is just the best . . .

I'm not sure if Riverside has this sort of program, but even without CHP, I'm pretty sure UCI is stronger in most everything.

UCR does have the same honors program, essentially.

You said you're not sure if Riverside has this sort of program and then you said they do have the same honors program, essentially. What?

Everything trickles down from somewhere and I'm sure UCR is chosen by a chunk of people over some great higher ranked schools, and I'm not one to say don't go their because it doesn't have as much "prestige", but on average it's all gunna trickle down from somewhere. Keep in mind that people at UCLA/Berkeley are either Stanford rejects (or didn't even apply) and so forth. Of course this is a generalization but it holds some truth.

do you have the exact statistics for how many UCI or UCR sends to a specific medical school?

I have my list right here in front of me and for USC School of Pharmacy, 29 from UCI and 7 from UCR for this fall's entering class. Not that this ends the discussion, but it's better than just saying UCR puts 20 people in blah blah blah and UCI doesn't, this is just one example.

Sorry, it was late. Here's a link. http://www.honors.ucr.edu/

Same thing, just with a slightly higher percentage of individuals.

Yackityack, yeah, most people apply to multiple schools, most people don't get into all of them, and most people don't go to their first choice. A lot of people at UCLA or Berkeley didn't get into the other, by the way. I agree, there is some trickle down. Where'd Stanford come from?

I'm having trouble finding uselful pages of statistics on UCR's website, but i just pointed out that one to show that UCR does send some of its kids to great places, and that UCI owns supreme over UCR. I don't know the official Med school place (the med equivalent to the lsac www.lsac.org for law), and i can't find statistics on either site. Could anyone just show the ucr and uci stats for both med and law?

"Where'd Stanford come from?"

Just an example of trickling down to cal/ucla (in general).

I applied to both UCI and UCR plus a number of other schools. I got accepted to UCI’s ecnomic program and to UCR’s Business Administration Finance program. Both are great. UCI is ranked higher in reports than UCR, but that doesn’t mean UCI excels in every field over UCR.

I chose UCR because I decided to go the Finance route for school. I wanted to work in banking and UCR and UC Berkley are the only two UC’s that offer an undergraduate program in Finance. I would say that besides only 2 UC’s offering Business Administration, UCR excels over UCI in: English/Literature, Certain Sciences (Entomology & Argiculture to name a few), has a specialized Bio-Med program in partnership with UCLA and some liberal arts programs.

It is true UCI is ranked higher than UCR in the other majors. If that is what you are looking at and got accepted to both, I would choose UCI (I am a UCR graduate btw). If you are leaning towards one of the listed majors I mentioned, especially Business Administration, than UCR is a no brainer.

The economics program at UCI and the business program at UCR cover wholly different topics and applications. They are related in the fact that both are within the sphere of the world of finance, but approach it in two much different ways. There are some positions that specifically require one or the other degree.

Hope this helps!

^Sorry, but there is no way UCR is ahead of irvine for English/Lit. It’s one of UCI’s strongest programs.

do you know how few students from uc riverside get into good grad schools?

in a lot of cases ranking doesn’t matter, but comparing uci and ucr really makes no sense.

out of ucd, uci, and ucr, which has the best social scene?

i kno of the academic standin of each univ, i jus wanna kno about the nightlife, etc.

xcrunner1478 here’s a better question, have you every not found good nightlife? Even if it’s in the neighboring city.

lol yeah actually i have. i live in bakersfield, where there is not much to do here, and the neighboring cities are too small to have any nightlife. closest is valencia, which is 1.5 hours away

Wow I can’t believe I found this thread after several years…I feel so much older now haha. Anyways, in terms of a school’s academics, nightlife and all that, go to the school and check it out, I think you’ll get a better feel for it than just by hearsay from CC. And if you like some school better than a higher ranked one, so what, make a smart decision for yourself and run with it, it’s your life…and don’t get too bogged down by rankings…

If you like UCR for whatever reasons over UCI even if uci is ranked higher and whatnot, I think you should run with it. I guess this goes slightly against but not totally what I said a few years ago in this thread hahah. Everyone’s a little different and has different goals, expectations, and priorities.

From what I’ve seen most SoBA grads go to USC or Emory for their MBAs. So it’s not out of the usual as for most undergrad’s grad-school choices. A lot of UCR med students go to UCSF. There is a flood of UCSF sweatshirts on campus, its as if when those bio-med kids are accepted they buy the damn sweatshirt and never take it off. It’s kind of gross.

UCI is way better academically and usually you’d wanna live in Newport on the peninsula for a decent social scene. Growing up right next to campus, id never personally go there, but ucr is soo much worse. Riverside is the shwags, there’s nothing to do out there. UCI is like 5 minutes from the beach and the social scene is pretty chill on the peninsula (4th of July is really cool if you stay for it).

Talking about bumping an old thread
