DS was waitlist and letter stated 130,000 applicants for 6,900 spots!?!? That is 5% admission. What were they last year?

130,830 Freshman applicants. The other 20,000 are Transfer applicants. Yes, a crazy # of applicants.

4 years ago, older son applied for CS at UCSD, admitted as an undeclared, decided not to attend. We will see what the younger one will do.

All schools admit more students than enroll so probably closer to 18-20,000 admits depending upon their yield.
