Currently my GPA is sitting at about a 3.8 weighted for all of high school so far. I am a junior and am taking just one AP class this year. What are the chances that I will be accepted?
UC’s use only grades from the a-g course requirements in 10-11th grades. They weight only UC approved Honors/AP/IB or DE courses taken 10-11th. If you are a CA resident, you can look up which courses at your HS are weighted here: https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist#/list/search/institution
UCSB uses capped weighted UC GPA (8 semesters max of extra Honors points): https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
The UC’s publish their Freshman profiles for each campus every year.
Here are the stats for 2017 and as you can see your weighted GPA is below the 25th percentile. You need to calculate your UC capped weighted GPA at the end of Junior year for comparison.
GPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students
High School GPA: 3.96 - 4.25
ACT Composite Score: 28 - 33
ACT English Language Arts: 26 - 31
SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing: 610 - 700
SAT Mathematics: 600 - 750
SAT Essay:15 - 19
This is what UCSB considers in their application review so work hard and come back next year to see where you stand.
