Just got accepted into UCSB as an incoming junior applicant. What is the best on campus apartment complex? The transfer housing options are Santa Ynez, Westgate, El Dorado, Westwinds, Sierra Madre Villages, and San Joaquin Villages.
Congrats! I just got accepted as well. I’m not familiar with any of the transfer housing so any info on this would be great. Hopefully some current students start posting so I can figure out my living situation asap lol
Likewise! Also, do you guys know if theres a UCSB transfer page/group on facebook? I feel as if that’d make it way easier to find roommates & communicate with other transfers.
I was looking for one today and I couldn’t find one for this year’s transfers specifically. I saw a general group for transfers, and a couple for previous years. If anyone makes/finds one for this year’s transfer, please link it!
Also just got accepted today! Congrats everyone! I spoke to a transfer admissions counselor around a month ago about housing. She definitely noted that San Joaquin Village was the newest housing (also her favorite) and mostly housed transfer students. Downside it’s placed right by the Freshmen dorms.
Hi,
So I’m a 2016 transfer (this is my 2nd year).
I lived in San Joaquin 2016-2017 and it was honestly pretty bad.
There are no dedicated parking spots for SJ residents except for 6 20-minute spots in front of the Freshman Dorms, but usually facilities takes up half of them. They were super strict on parking, two of my housemates got $300 in parking tickets that year, at least half of them were for being there a couple minutes over the limit. The bathrooms are designed really weird in that there are no barriers between the shower and the rest of the bathroom so water flows around the floor as you shower and the materials they used for flooring stain super easily and are really hard to get out.
Currently I live in Sierra Madre and it’s really nice, except the rooms are a tad smaller but living spaces are much larger, along with dedicated parking. I believe all of SJ and SM are transfers which is dope. We have our own dedicated study rooms and a small “gym” (couple machines and a few cardio machines).
If you plan on using your car often (especially during Winter, 2016-2017 we had a huge storm that lasted the entire Spring quarter) choose Sierra Madre. If you plan on biking to get groceries, San Joaquin is nice, our community got really close, but heard there’s a ton of drama this year (guess it depends on your transfer class).
The downside to both are that they are about 1-2 miles away from Campus/IV so it can be a pain biking to/from class but it’s good cardio.
Hope this helped, congrats and hope yall enjoy UCSB!
congrats everyone!!
Has anyone heard anything about Santa Ynez?
Are all of you guys set on living in the UCSB-affiliated apartments? I can’t decide whether I wanna do that to meet other transfers or find my own on craigslist or something so that I don’t have to deal with an RA and what not
Hi everyone, I made a facebook group! Feel free to private message me if you’d like to be added to the group and if you know other transfers, please add them into it too
Links to facebook are not allowed

I lived in Santa Ynez apartments two years. They always say they’re full if you call, but if you show up in person they’ll probably get you in.
.
hey sorry im kind of new to this so im not sure how to message you! i would like to join the facebook transfer housing/ roomates. Can you please help me out lol im excited to transfer and would like to start looking for roomates @axh0881
Sierra Madre and San Joaquin are the farthest of the apartments. San Joaquin is closer and its a mile away. You need to either bike or bus. Sierra Madre looks pretty nice from the outside, San Joaquin has brand new buildings so those may be the nicest. Santa Ynez is the closest to campus I believe but pretty far from things in IV. Ynez isn’t the newest but its a very nice looking complex. Dorado, Westwinds, and Westgate are more iv style looking. If i was you id just live in IV go on the housing page for ucsb and look for a group filling out an apartment/house. You dont have to deal with an Ra and u might find a cheaper deal.
@axh0881 can you add me to the facebook group?
do you guys know if the current facebook group is useful at all? What off-campus places are normally good living areas?
If you guys search “UCSB Transfers (Fall 2018)” you’ll find the group!
