UC Santa Cruz Class of 2022 Applicant Thread

obviously they’re doing something to the portal… this normally happens the day before the decision comes out. however santa cruz is so specific about their announcement date and time, I doubt they’ll announce tomorrow.

The portal is working now but they have not released decision.

Mine won’t load past the MyUSSC button. In other words, when I click on that, nothing happens.

I also got an email on February 28th about that, but for the Physical and Biological Sciences Division, can’t wait for March 15th!

Almost had a heart attack when I saw the first few words of the re line of tonight’s email!

Same. I hate all the emails starting with UCSC Admissions. Ah!

I wish other UC campuses too kept us updated the same way UCSC does. :’(

One week till decisions are posted! So nerve racking!

I saw the earlier discussion on early admission emails; seems like those emails specifically went out to applicants with really high test scores and GPAs - the kids every college wants to recuit (thanks to the users who posted their stats so we could see some sort of pattern).

My daughter received an email in mid February from UCSC Out of State Admissions titled “Opportunities Await You in the Fall!” that was not an acceptance letter, but it did mention as an OOS student she could be eligible for an Undergraduate Dean’s Award. Here’s what it said:

"Dear _____:

Thank you for applying to the University of California, Santa Cruz. As you sort through the many options for pursuing your education, I hope this information will help you learn more about our campus. Should you be admitted, UC Santa Cruz will offer an experience that will open your life to many new and exciting opportunities, friendships, and life-changing events!
I am also pleased to share with you that as a student from outside California, if you decide to attend UC Santa Cruz you will also be automatically considered for the Undergraduate Dean’s Award, a scholarship ranging from $12,000 to $40,000 (split over four years for freshmen), that can help offset the cost of nonresident tuition.
UC Santa Cruz, a research university whose faculty, students, and alumni have earned international recognition, etc… etc… etc…"

I hope this is a positive sign that they want to admit her. Otherwise, it’s kind of a cruel tease! Perhaps they sent this to all OOS state applicants? I don’t know. Trying not to get our hopes up. UCSC is her top choice!

Good luck to everyone!

@unizee Can you please share her stats?

Sure… please keep in mind that UC does not recognize any extra honors credits for OOS students (but they still must have a 3.4 GPA to even qualify to apply - CA students its 3.0), so her UC GPA would seem pretty average even though she’s very heavy on honors classes and takes a challenging course load.

Weighted in-state GPA: 3.78
UC GPA (OOS): 3.48
SAT: 1230
Major: Biology/Marine Biology
Outstanding ECs
Solid essays

Thanks— we are from Florida and my son is very interested. The UC’s don’t give credit for what your school calls an honors class but they definitely do give credit for any AP or IB class so maybe her UC gap is higher than you realize! My son has a 1340/30 sat/act and is an IB candidate. His UC GPA is 3.71…Great EC’s and essays… good luck to your daughter- hope she gets in!!

My S got an email, Accepted! Major will be known on the 15th when then update portal.

On behalf of the faculty of the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the Office of Admissions, I am honored to provide you early email notification of your admission for fall 2018. Your academic and personal accomplishments have earned you a place in our newest freshman class. Congratulations!
As one of the world’s premier research universities, UC Santa Cruz provides an exceptional education…

Congratulations, @BiomedFather! What are your S’s stats? When did you get the email?

@BiomedFather congratulations to your son. Do you remember what his primary and secondary majors were?

@YoungOne4 we received email on Feb 23
GPA: 4.2

@JaqueBear U should get in IMHO. My son had similar stats and admitted.

good luck everyone!!

Man, I’m so stressed. I have average test scores, 3.82 UC GPA, in biracial and trans, I have an overwhelming involvement in four grassroots orgs and pres+founder of 2 social equity type clubs, and a lot of theater involvement- but being rejected from U of Washington and UC Davis, I’m losing college confidence in ucsc. It’s my #1, and since Davis’s acceptance rate dropped so far this year, I can only imagine UCSC’s going down too. If anyone’s worried like me, College of The Redwoods in Humboldt County is also a very liberal, forest loving CC- in the middle of the weed capital of the country (if that interests anyone). It’s very northern CA, and reminds me a lot of UCSC. Worst comes to worst, I’ll transfer to Santa Cruz after. They have chipmunks and deer up in Humboldt County lol. Good luck to us all, it’s just getting more and more stressful as we move closer to midnight this Wednesday!

@imsydv good luck for Santa Cruz! I think you have a good shot at getting in- I hope you do!!!
