White Male
First person in my family to attend college
Lower middle class
3.67 GPA
SAT 1280/1600
ACT 26 composite
Possible majors: Robotics, BioEngineering, Molecular Bio.
What are my chances to get into Santa Cruz?
For Engineering/STEM, you want your stats to be above the averages due to the competitiveness of these majors. It is worth an application but definitely not a solid Match but a slight Reach.
My updated GPA is a 3.81 now
SAT 1280/1600 ( taken twice. Same score each time)
ACT 28
Major is Biology now not Engineering
I toured yesterday and I really liked the school. It felt good the minutes I got out of my car.
A big reach? A little reach?
I think it is a Match-High Match school.
Good Luck.
Thanks.
I think it is a little reach (to use your term). Definitely spend some time perfecting your essays.
Also, apply to UCR and SDSU…
Good luck.
not reach imo, good match
Hi there,
So I’ve been doing some research on UC Santa Cruz and I know its definitely the place for me. I started my undergrad at a well known public art school in a highly competitive BFA Photography program, then took some time off to travel and figure things out. I returned last spring and switched majors into “New Media” a fusion of fine arts and computer science and really been diving into the CS aspects. But I feel I want something else for the end of my undergrad.
I currently have 55 credits completed with 68 in progress for the Fall. I’ve only been back in school for 1 semester so want to build a track record of solid growth. This fall I’m taking Pre-Calc, CS 1, Immersive Sound Architectures, and a design studio. This Spring I’m planning to take Calc, CS 2, Physics 1, and Intro to Web (85 credits total when completed).
My current cumulative GPA is just under 3, with a 3.4 last term. I’m still speaking with admissions at Santa Cruz to see whether I’d be eligible to apply for Fall 17 or the Winter session. I think the Winter session might be a better bet since i’d have shown more growth and proven that I can handle the math. I’m also a part time art teacher teaching computer science oriented art classes at a local art center to kids in middle school.
What do you guys think about my case for Santa Cruz? Any feedback or insights would definitely be appreciated!
I think it will be tough with a sub-3.0
How about CSU Monterrey?
Hmm ya as it currently stands I agree, thats why I was thinking about waiting to apply for the Winter Session. My cumulative GPA will definitely have improved a lot after the Fall and Spring sessions at my current school. I had some difficulties when I left and really glad i left when I did and will be working hard to make the grades. The current program i’m in is a 4 year arts program (of which i’ve done 1 semester) and though its a interesting program I want to try and shoot for something a little more on the engineering side.
Thank you for suggesting CSU Monterrey, it looks like a great alternative! I’m thinking of at least applying to UCSC in the for Fall 17 and then will follow up when the winter apps comes around.
