Hi, everyone. I’m currently a junior who is out of state (of California that is). I was wondering if I could get some general info about the campus vibe/student life at UC Santa Cruz. Also, I’m really interested in Marine Biology, so if anyone could tell me about UCSC’s program that’d be awesome Also also, I have an ACT score of 32 and a weighted GPA of 3.76 and was wondering how my chances of admission seem? I know there’s definitely other factors that go into admission, and I’m very involved in extracurriculars and play a varsity sport.
Thanks so so much!!
See the freshman admission profile posted by Santa Cruz:

and see how your stats rate with their average admissions.
I don’t have much information on their marine science program, but they are on the coast, so that should help.
Be aware that there is no financial aid for OOS students at the California public schools.
Thank you so much for all of that. It all really helps
I was recently admitted to UCSC and toured today. I had a 3.6ish GPA, 1920 SAT score and took no AP courses. I did take college classes while still in high school, which was my equivalent of “AP.” I know students who applied who had higher GPA’s and took AP’s but were waitlisted. I also know students who got lower SAT scores than me but were admitted. It’s really just luck of the draw but you stand a pretty good chance given your stats. The campus is very beautiful and serene. The student body was very friendly and I really enjoyed it. Definitely come here if your’e interested in marine bio. I believe its the 2nd largest in the country? They also have a great relationship with Monterey Bay Aquarium and there are tons of internships, and research for undergrads to get involved with. In fact, 70% of undergrads do research. UCSC is definitely more of an alternative campus, you get a lot of “hippie” type students. Very environmentally conscious and vegan friendly. That being said, there are a ton of different students that come here from what I’ve seen. It’s a UC so education is top notch, however I got less of a stressed out vibe than I did at other UC’s. Hope this helped
You have great scores. Compared to my act composite score of 24 and GPA of 3.33 I’m pretty sure you make it. If you do your research on the UCSC site, they’re rankings are high in Biological research, why I’m going there. I got accepted. I also play varsity sport (tennis).
Are you attending? I accepted my admission and already completed my residency, I’m just waiting for approval.
UCSC NCAA sports may be gone next year! Got this from a UCSC coach today!
