***UC Santa Cruz Transfer Decision Thread 2019***

Who else is still waiting for a CS decision? Sooooo tired of waiting

Still waiting!!! Ugh!

Major: Plant Science
GPA: 3.4
Accepted: UCR, UCI, UCD, Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, Humboldt
Still waiting: UCSC, UCSD

Rejected yesterday…
Major: Cognitive Science
GPA: 2.84
Major Pre-Reqs: I failed the last one I needed last fall 2018 (Linear Algebra and Differential Equations). I’m currently retaking it right now.
IGETC: Completed with CC courses and AP credit
Waiting: UCSD, UCR, UCM

I know my gpa isn’t necessarily competitive and failing my course last fall definitely didn’t help. I applied as a TAG and was told I didn’t meet the criteria. But even with my low GPA and by retaking the class this semester I do meet the minimum requirements? I’m honestly not sure what to do now, if my TAG didn’t get accepted I don’t have hopes I’ll be accepted anywhere else

@xfazer I’m sorry to hear you were rejected. My daughter applied for Cog Sci and is still waiting to hear. She goes to a 4-year school not a community college and because of that, she communicated several times with an admissions counselor to ask questions before applying to make absolutely sure she was taking as close as possible to the correct major prep courses. Linear Algebra and Differential Equations was not a requirement - a regular Calc. class is though. This is my understanding of the Cog Sci lower division requirements that were to be done before transfer:

https://admissions.ucsc.edu/apply/transfer-students/major-prep.html#cog

Check out the GPA requirement for the major-prep classes: was your GPA in those classes at least 2.80? It may be just having failed a class at all, even if it wasn’t a major prep class? You should contact them if you want to in order to find out what was the reason - I’ve seen others did that and they were willing to tell the student the reason(s) for denial. Good luck with the other schools!

@CAtransplant Wow you’re right, LA and DE is not a requirement for UCSC. It is for UCSD though which is my first choice. I earned C’s in most of the pre-reqs besides Java (I also earned a C in C++). I guess that doesn’t put me at the required 2.8 major prep gpa? Even though I passed the classes…I’m not sure if I can anything to get in then, even if I take another year to take easy courses to raise my overall gpa it won’t change my major prep gpa. I guess it doesn’t hurt to ask admissions if there’s anything I can do, but I’m feeling pretty defeated right now. Best of luck to your daughter!

@xfazer You can appeal after you complete the class. Passing it should help increase your UC GPA because I think your F in the course will be replaced with your new grade.

@xfazer Thanks. Ya, UCSD is the best school for Cog Sci in a lot of ways but my daughter didn’t focus on their requirements, mainly on UCSC’s. She did apply to UCSD but not sure she’s done the required major prep.

is it likly to get accepted to your 2nd choice major before rejection? has anyone been accepted to their 2nd choice major ?

Has anyone not heard back yet? Cause I still haven’t…

crickets

my daughter still hasn’t heard back yet.

Haven’t heard yet either…

I haven’t heard back either and UCSC was already low on my list but now I’m really not very interested. I find it unprofessional to let some people know so far ahead and even give them a full financial package before even giving others a decision. It would be better to just have one large release.

My son TAG’d for CS and still hasn’t heard.

Honestly a little shocked I haven’t heard back from UCSC

Hey guys idk If anyone has run into this, but on the UCSC website for transfer requirements, they say this:

“”""
Students who have completed 90 UC-transferable semester units (135 quarter units) or more are not considered for admission to UCSC, except in the following circumstances:

Students will be granted up to 70 semester/105 quarter units of credit for lower-division coursework completed at any institution or any combination of institutions. For units beyond the maximum, subject credit for appropriate coursework taken in excess of this unit limitation will be granted and may be used to satisfy requirements.

Units earned through AP, IB, and/or A-Level examinations are not included in the limitation and do not put applicants at risk of being denied admission.
Units earned at any UC campus (Extension, summer, cross/concurrent and regular academic year enrollment) are not included in the limitation but are added to the maximum transfer credit allowed and may put applicants at risk of being denied admission due to excessive units.
“”""

I currently have 81 units and will be over 90 at the end of the semester, should I be worried about this?At a CCC btw

ACCEPTED

Finally! I had been waiting so long I thought it was a rejection for sure!
GPA: 3.88
Major: Business Management Economics
Essays: Doesn’t matter bc they don’t even read them! lol

@mpineda3247 It’s fine if it’s all from a cc.

Good to hear @Trashception - hope the rest still waiting will soon have good news. I saw you also got into Berkeley though which is huge, congrats on that!

@CAtransplant yeah I got into Haas, which is my #1 school so I’m not too concerned with the rest of them. I committed to UCB so I actually kinda hope I get rejected from the rest so I don’t feel like I was too hasty haha!
