UC Gpa: 3.79
ACT: 28
Major: Computer Science

I don’t blame your daughter @katnatmom … I’m pretty pessimistic myself because I can’t believe this is happening.

Hi @icurryx3! Have you heard from other UC’s? My daughter isn’t holding out much hope after getting waitlisted at Santa Cruz and denied at both Davis & San Diego. Did you apply to Santa Barbara, UCLA, or Cal? SB is her first choice, but she’s pessimistic about getting in. Good luck to you and I’ll post on Tuesday regardless! Keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!

Does anyone know what happens if you are on the waitlist, send an appeal and it is denied? Do you remain on the waitlist or does the denial of the appeal remove you entirely from consideration? Just wondering whether there is risk in appealing just to show a slight uptick in grades on a relatively low GPA student and submit a great letter of recommendation, versus just staying on wait list and hoping odds are in our favor. (mom writing here, of course)

@katnatmom I was rejected by UCSD and waitlisted at Santa Cruz. I applied to UCLA, UCSB, and my first choice is UCI. I’m not sure what’s going to happen.

@icurryx3 Please keep me posted on the rest of your apps…sending good thoughts to you as you wait! When do you hear from Irvine?

@katnatmom Many people are saying tomorrow around 3PM… I’ll definitely keep you posted :frowning:

Daughter waitlisted – Undeclared Humanities:
In state
UC GPA 3.98
ACT 26
Great ECs and essays

Rejected at Davis and UCSD. Accepted at CalPoly SLO, SDSU, SFSU, Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount, University of San Diego, and Chapman.

Not feeling like there’s any shot for her at Irvine or SB at this point because of the UCSC decision…crazy and not at all what we were anticipating.

My understanding is that the appeal and waitlist processes are separate and not related to one another. But you can’t file an appeal unless you genuinely have incorrect/missing/new information that is very significant.

I guess question is, since what is significant can be subjective, do you risk their ire if you appeal and lose. I looked at 2016 thread, seems like you can lose appeal, stay on waitlist and then still get in (or not, but not because you appealed)

That is a good question and I just don’t know. Still in utter shock and finding our way through this.

My daughter was wait listed last year and she wrote an appeal. The appeal was denied but she did get accepted off the wait list. Her GPA was 4.04 and her ACT was 26 (marine biology). So, the appeal process does not affect the wait list process at all (however, I am actually convinced that the fact that she wrote an appeal might have helped her get off the wait list…but who knows).

Thank you so much for that information! That is what I think we will do. at the very least, it shows them you are a serious candidate who will accept if they take you.
