@Caligirl24 - what is SIR?
@SADMBDAD I’m sorry but I find that very hard to believe. UCSC will definitely take people off the waitlist as spots will inevitably open. Most of the people who are admitted to Santa Cruz are also admitted to many other prestigious UCs, so they attend those. Also, I know a big handful of kids at my school who applied to SC for the hell of it as it was just one check mark away. If places like UC Berkeley and UCLA are able to take students off the waitlist, then I am sure Santa Cruz will too whether that number is big or small. Also, usually admissions officers are not supposed to disclose any information like that so I doubt that that information you’re obtaining from that “someone at UCSC” is fully credible. There is definitely hope for all the waitlisted students!!
@SADMDAD: SIR= Statement of Intent to Register or basically enrolling in a college.
@redheadsurferkid I feel the same way as you. They would have rejected a lot more people off their waitlist by now if they are too overloaded with SIRs. They wouldn’t unnecessarily have people waiting in the wings if they thought they are for certain maxing out.
Has UCSC sent out any waitlist rejections?
anybody way listed has heard from UCSC. This is so stressful
all the ppl who view but not comment are coming out of the woodwork. Trust me if someone got in we would have heard
praying for midnight
Just hope that kids will get in, this is so insane and stressful for everybody!
One thing to keep in mind is that those who initally commit to UCSC might be waitlisted elsewhere.
For example, there’s this guy at my school who was waitlisted at UCSD but got into UCSC. IDK where he’s going to commit, but even if he committed to UCSC, I’m sure he would’ve switched over to UCSD if he got off the waitlist there.
That goes for any UC.
Someone who committed to Santa Cruz might hear back from Davis, Irvine, SB, or SD, and then switch over there, opening a spot for us.
So we have to wait.
Patience is a virtue, I believe in us
@vinashana thank you that is such a good point, I would never have even considered that
So there is still a chance that after people SIR they will commit to another school if they get off the waitlist
“The someone at UCSC” was one of the heads of the transfer department. I’m not trying to burst anyone’s bubble, but we know MANY people who were rejected by most of their UC choices, and got into UCSC and are now going since it’s their only option. I really do think there will be less kids added from the waitlist this year, just because of how hard it was to get into the other UC’s this year - but that’s not based on anything but our own data.
My son choose a JC for now, and we are operating under the assumption he will not get off the wait list, and maybe we’ll get a nice surprise in June!
What is his major?
I just called the admissions office and they said that they do not know if they will be taking people off the waitlist and that they will not know for another month
well time to wait some more
That’s weird because I spoke with them yesterday and they reassured me that they will indeed be using the waitlist. They said that they will be admitting off the waitlist sporadically- ie in the fashion of “rolling admissions”.
I have been on this thread frequently to see if anyone was lucky enough to be admitted from the waitlist. I made an account just now so I could speak to you all. The constant hypothesizing is not good for anyone. Reading peoples assumptions on this thread did nothing but make my stomach turn. I understand the stress all of you are feeling. The uncertainty is overwhelming. However, I do not think it is beneficial for anyone to post paranoid guesses about how UCSC will utilize the waitlist. Take a deep breath everyone! All we can do is be patient. I wish you all the best!!!
Just made an account to say thank you! The constant hypothesizing is doing nothing but stressing everyone out, Best we can do is just wait and hope for the best.
I am a part of the problem of hypothesizing but I totally agree. good luck everyone
2015 waitlistee here—no speculation allowed!
There’s a strong chance they won’t use a waitlist at all. They didn’t for my year. I know, it sucks. It really sucks.
If UCSC is where you want to go, there’s no shame in the game for choosing a California Community College. It is so much easier to get to UCSC from there. You even get guarenteed transfer housing!
That said, you’ll land where you’re supposed to be. I hope the best for all of you and don’t be afraid to move forward in your decisions, Santa Cruz won’t know if you suddenly love your new school more.
