UC Santa Cruz Waitlist Thread 2018

I’m an in state student and I also got the same email today. It’s so frustrating :frowning:

My son received the same letter.

Oops

@hisbis it’s an email. Try looking in the spam or promotions tab?

I got the email too :confused: tired of waiting, just want to know already! Hopefully more news soon! Did anyone in-state get in??

I dont think so but if your not paying for my tuition could you at least buy me some lithium batteries

Sure, no problem @HelloThere12321

@Kentaro082599

Congratulations! Are you going to commit?

(I hope not so there’s a space open for us, but if you do, then gg)

I received the email as well but then twenty minutes later also received an email saying that I qualify for the middle class scholarship for a UC or CSU. It’s pretty vague but I did not SIR to any other school, does anyone know if this is a coincidence or does this mean I will be getting off the waitlist?

I think us in-state people have a strong chance of getting off the waitlist.

OOS/intl fees are hella expensive. I don’t think the price would be justified, especially since UCs are stingy with financial aid, and the prestige isn’t similar to Berkeley.

Therefore, I think the OOS/intl people who got off the waitlist today will likely decline (not worth it IMO) and then they’ll have no choice but to turn to us in-state people.

fingers crossed

Hope you’re right!! Finger crossed for sure! @vinashana

At least they have spots open which we thought might not be the case for this year. Waitlisted students only have one week to confirm their acceptance so it shouldn’t be a super long wait if they do another round of admission. Love how they decide to stress out even more during AP testing!

@vinashana i hope you’re right, but UC’s usually must have a certain percentage of the incoming class be from out of state or international (something like 18% i think). it may be possible that the reason they are accepting international and OOS from the waitlist is because they did not meet this quota. im nervous that they still won’t accept any instate from waitlist because they may have already met the quota for instate students

@shaswizzle You have a good point

However, I believe they wanted a class of 3900 students (give or take a few 1000)

So if the instate people meet the quota, but the OOS/intl people don’t, they’ll have a bunch of these empty seats, which they’d have to fill up.

And if they had met the in-state quota, we would’ve been rejected by now and not put on standby.

Does anyone know how accepting a wait list offer works? I feel like a bunch of people because they already sired might decline the offer. Do the offers expire so they can offer more people admission?

@HelloThere12321: Usually you are offered a spot from the waitlist and given a week to decide. If you decline, then they move on to the next applicant.

@Rojas - Psychology.

Son - got the status update today as well. Bad news - he didn’t get in now. Good news - they are definitely adding people. As they said in Dumb & Dumber “So you’re saying there’s a chance!”

@SADMBDAD your son got a rejection from the waitlist? was it through email or portal? and are you international/OOS or instate?

The email being referenced above - ie, we added some kids from the wait list, wasn’t you, don’t freak, there are spots avail, you’ll hear by early June. In State kid…
