UC Santa Cruz Waitlist Thread 2018

@BeegMama when i went to the admitted students tour, they said CS:GD isn’t impacted and only CS is. Maybe CS:GD is a close runner up. I have other plans if the SC waitlist doesn’t work out, but really am hoping to get in.

It would be awesome if your son could call and ask. I’ve also emailed them and will share any responses they give.

I think it is pointless to call/email them. They just give general answers and some of them probably don’t even know themselves.

A wild guess … if they admit anyone off the waitlist, it might be a few here and there, as late as June. Doesn’t seem like a significant wave this late will happen - just based on historical posts/dates of those posts, and the huge number of applicants this year. sigh

Yea they just replied to my email. it doesn’t even seem like they read my messages and that they just copied and pasted some text.

I know some other colleges have guaranteed transfer admission after 1 or 2 years, deferred admission, or spring admission. I believe even UCLA does one of the above.

Does anyone know if ucsc does any of this?

@vinashana: UCSC offers TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) but you need 60 semester/90 quarter units prior to transfer which usually means 2 years at a California community college.

UCLA does not offer TAG. UCM/UCR/UCSC/UCD/UCI and UCSB are in the TAG program.

UCSC does not usually offer deferred admission and this means you have been accepted to UCSC but want to defer usually for Military service.

UCSC does not have Spring admission.

@Gumbymom Thanks for the heads up!

Does anyone know which UCs have sent out waitlist acceptances yet? Maybe Santa Cruz isn’t the only UC that hasn’t

@redheadsurferkid I know the UCLA hasn’t admitted off the waitlist yet. I know a few people who committed to Berkeley and would accept UCLA should they be admitted off the waitlist. This would then trickle down to UCSC. I know plenty of people who have been waitlisted at both UCSC and UCB.

@redheadsurferkid: UCR, UCB and UCSC are the only UC’s that have admitted Freshman applicants from the waitlist. UCSD admitted some transfer applicants from the waitlist. No admits so far from UCD, UCLA or UCSD for Freshman. UCI has closed their Freshman waitlist. UCSB just rejected several waitlisted applicants and rumor has they only accepted a few but no confirmed posts of any acceptances.

I think I remember seeing a post on reddit where someone said they called UCD admissions and found out that as of now, they have no plans of releasing people off the waitlist.

And UCLA has not - and will not - admit any freshman off the waitlist, yield rate was high this year.

It’s not over yet guys, we can’t give up now!

The UCs are under a lot of pressure (esp UCSC) to make a 2:1 ratio (freshman: transfer) to acquire state funding. It looks likes transfers were still being admitted last week at ucsc. This school’s standing Freshman waitlists have not been totally rejected so far…I’ll take that as a good sign. Crossing fingers. They have a handful of very motivated students that are ready for the asking.

Anyone know how impacted computer engineering is? Can I switch to something else less impacted now to improve chances? Also, we aren’t supposed to ask admissions about this, so I was wondering if anyone here know how to access our waitlist position, or if its impossible…

not possible

@Gumbymom I know you have no real way of knowing, but Do you think they will let people off?

I tweeted the UCSC admissions office asking when the next set of waitlist results will be out.

Not sure if they’ll reply, though, because even though they tweet a lot, their twitter fan base is small

@HelloThere12321: It would be great if I had a crystal ball and could tell you that they will indeed pull applicants off the waitlist, but unfortunately only admissions knows the information. Since CC is not representative of all UCSC applicants, they probably have admitted some applicants but they have just not posted about it. UCSC has had several years where they pulled no one off the waitlist, so it is possible the longer they take to post decisions, the likelihood that no one will be admitted.

The problem with waitlists is that gives many applicants hope, but you should consider it a rejection and move on. If by chance you are accepted, consider it a icing on the cake.

I am sure all applicants will end up where they were meant to be and just know that where you go for Undergrad will not define you, it is what you do with the opportunities you are given that will make you successful.
