My daughter was accepted, but not sure about going to UCSC. Anyone with definite thoughts about UCSC?

Stoner school. But if you are able to stay focused on the academics, not bad.

Marijuana use is pretty prevalent. The parties are fun - everybody is really laid back and friendly. The student body is very intelligent, but not very competitive. Great weather. The school is underrated academically - lots of well known professors choose to retire in Santa Cruz. Very liberal town.

The campus is gorgeous - redwoods, ocean views, historic ranch buildings, the works. It is definitely a stoner, laidback type of school, but you can get serious if you want.

I agree, it's pretty underrated. UCSC has good academics.

are you a student at UCSC?

Me? No, but it's on my college list (along with Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA, and UCSD) because of its linguistics program.
