Hmm... Anyone? SB or I?

I'd go to santa barbara, if it were my choice. The central coast is nice(I live there), and it has a great rep for things like physics and business. What major are you applying under?

Poli Sci. Wanna go to law school.

you dont like the area

davis and UCSB are the two college town UC's

but if you would rather go to a school in a large city it would make since to not go to daivs..

it is gaining ground in its engineering department, science, and in its MBA program for grad school. Most UC's will be grad school oriented.

If you have a 3.82 uc gpa and you dont think youll get into berk,la or sd you could be wrong. According to the admission stats (provided in the transfer forum by exilo)the largest precentage of people admitted to uc san diego had a gpa between 2.8 and 3.2 . the number of people who were in this category was a 34 percent( FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS ).Santa cruz is great though. Last time i checked it wasnt a "surfer town". alot of dump people from so cal think that. But all the people in SC i know who surf drive out to monteray. Its a shame you did not apply there, you sound like a sure shot. I know people applying to there currently with gpa's >2.8. The minimum gpa still floats at about 2.4 if im not mistaken.

I love college towns, just not ones in the middle of the state.

Giants8307 you live in the central coast

me too ? what town?

I'm not transferring. I'm a senior in high school right now.

san luis obispo, u?

hollister san benito county

tore: Vallarta on Pacific is teh awesome. :> (Although, so is Shogun, and so is Kianti's, and so is Pizza My Heart, and... well, you get the idea.)

sinful_saint: I don't think you can really go wrong with poli sci, no matter which you go to. My writer/drama friends went to UCI, and the other friends went to UCSB. Depends on the kind of feel you want, though -- UCSB can be more science-oriented than UCI (which I tend to think of as being humanities driven). On a tangent, though, I wouldn't give up hope on UCSD: I was admitted to Revelle with a GPA that was, I think, a bit lower than yours.

Let's clear some stuff up. I'm a senior in high school awaiting admissions decisions. I will be majorig in poli sci and eventually going to law school. If the choice comes down to Santa Barbara or Irvine, where do you suggest I go?

croberts532: As a SoCal'er, I take issue with your dismissal. :P Not really, but all the same... I find it hard to defend UCSC when its student body is challenged because the information is question is more often true than false.

Alas. I should have gone to UCSD if I felt like relating with anyone.

What were yer other stats though? My SAT I is 1440, and my SAT II breakdown is 740/740/700. I've taken five AP exams with four scores of 4 and one score of 5. I am taking four AP classes this year and one honors class. I was looking at the admissions formula for UCSD and it looks like I'd only receive extra points for being president of Academic Decathlon. I don't have ELC, I've played chess for 10 years but haven't won any awards, I only have 80 hours of community service, and I don't think they'd give me points for being vice president of computer club.

i cant stand the wind from the beach on those winter and fall days and i like the heat

plus sb looks like crap and the nice water area that is in every pic of the campus smells like ****

irvine highest asian pop , nice hot days. campus is really kept up and look sgreat.

1380 SAT (760/620), ~740/680/590 SAT II (math is not my strong point, obviously). I had 2 AP scores upon applying (both 3) and was taking AP Bio, AP Lit/Comp and AP Calc. I was president of Drama Club, did a whole bunch of tech stuff (involved for 3 years), had a bunch of volunteering hours (and officer in Interact), and took college classes during two summers (one at UCR, one at Stanford).

Pretty unremarkable score-wise, and not that great EC-wise.

Geez, those are some good stats. I'd say you're a hopeful for UCLA/UCB and a match for UCSD.

Your volunteering is probably what got you in. They give 150 points for 100 hours of community service and 300 for 200 hours and above. I, unfortunately, did not know that and only accumulated 80 hours. Sucks, huh? Without community service points, I'm about 100 points below what I need to be accepted.

I don't recall reporting the number of hours I had volunteered, but it's very likely. Still, 80 hours is nothing to smirk at, and I would honestly be surprised if they rejected you. What was your first-choice college?

Revelle :-/
