Urgent help needed:
Dear parents, when I checked the Examination Requirement for my D#2s UC school application, it stated that for SAT II subject test, it requires the two subject test from two different areas, since D#2 only take Chemistry and Biology for SAT II,( she did take AP History and AP Biology), Does my D need to take Math II in order for her to qualify? Will it be too late for her to take it in Dec?
She will apply as an out of state student.
I appreciate all the thought you have on this. Thanks.
Mom in panic

Applicants must take subject tests from two different areas: English lit, Math (Level 2 only), history and social studies, science and foreign language. If she can do better in one of the other areas besides math, she can take one of those other tests.

December sitting is OK for UC applications.

If your D is thinking of majoring in biology or engineering, the Math 2 test is strongly recommended by some campuses (“strongly recommended” means “you better do it”). See this from the UC website:

Is it necessary for a student who wants to major in biology or chemistry to take the SAT Subject Test: Math Level 2?

The test is not required, but it is strongly recommended. Applicants to the following UC campus schools, colleges or majors are strongly encouraged to take the SAT Subject Test: Math Level 2 and an SAT Subject Test in a science (Biology E/M, Chemistry or Physics) that is closely related to the applicants intended major:

Berkeley | Colleges of Chemistry and Engineering

Irvine | Applicants to the Henry Samueli School of Engineering are strongly encouraged to take the SAT Subject Test: Math Level 2 as one of the two required SAT Subject Tests.

Los Angeles | Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science

Riverside | Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering

San Diego | Jacobs School of Engineering; also recommended for students considering a major in the biological or physical sciences

Santa Barbara | Engineering and Computer Science majors

Yes, you would have to take another one, and yes, December 5 will be OK:

Make sure your D also has the VAPA requirement covered…

THere is also the early November date for SAT if you can find a nearby testing site with space available.

Thank you all. I feel much better knowing she still can take either the Nov or Dec test.

As Blue Bayou mentioned, the Visual and Performing Arts requirement can really trip up an out of stater. Has she had band or choir or whatever class to fulfill this requirement?

Thanks for the reminder, she has one year choir, so I think is ok in that area.

Sounds OK to me!

What classes could cover the VAPA requirements? My art credit for highschool was fulfilled with a class called Media Technologies, which consisted of Photoshop/Photography and After Effects/Video. Would that be sufficient?

Here’s the basic Visual and Peforming Arts requirement -
If your HS is in California you should be able to check with them to see if that particular course is an approved VAPA course. It sounds as if it probably is if it’s a year long course. If it’s a California HS you can check this website to see if particular courses at a particular HS are approved for the VAPA as well as the other A-G course requirements -
