UC Schools for an OOS!

What does it take to get into any of the UC's? Whether it be UCSB to UCSD....
From experience how hard is it to get accepted as an OOS?

Minimum GPA for OOS applicants is a 3.4 in the so-called a-g courses in 10th and 11th grade.

I see from another post that you are looking for financial aid. UC has very little aid for OOS applicants. If your family will not be able to afford $50k a year, then you should look at other schools.

As far as I know UCs have no FA for OOS students. Bring your $50K/year.

There isn’t much available to out-of-staters. S1 was offered Presidential Scholarship to UCSC (OOS) which equates to $20,000 spread out over 4 years (4K,4K,6K,6K). He was also accepted at UCSB honors college, but they didn’t offer any merit award. In the end, a better offer won.

To answer your question though, it’s easier than we thought when he applied. But I will say that he’s a NMF, had a solid transcript,EC’s, SAT scores, and his essays were excellent. 4 others in his VA public HS also got into UCSC and 2 are attending next fall. One had a 3.5 gpa and above avg. SAT’s and also received the Presidential Scholarship. He will be majoring in theatre and has received a lot of local awards for his talent so that may have a lot to do with the award. If you can afford the 50K, and you feel one of the UC’s is worth that to you, then apply. And yes, OOS applicants have to have at least a 3.4 GPA.
