UC Schools

Hi, I'm a high school student living on the East Coast, but I'm really interested in applying to the top UC's in the future. However, I'm not really familiar with some of the requirements. DISCLAIMER: YES I KNOW I CAN GOOGLE ALL OF THEM; BUT I LIKE THE WORDING AND EXPLANATION ON THIS FORUM BETTER lol. Can someone list some unique parts of UC admission. For example, Uc schools dont take in freshman year grades? Is this true? Thanks in advance

1) UC’s will only use Sophomore/Junior grades in their UC Calculation
: <a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/</a>
However, you still have to self report your freshman grades on the application along with Senior in-progress courses. Also as an OOS student, only 4 year long or (8 semesters) of AP classes can be used for the extra honors points in the calculation and no more than 2 Sophomore year.

2) UC’s will only use a-g required courses in determing eligilbility. http://www.ucop.edu/doorways/</a>
If you do not meet these minimum requirements, you will not be accepted. The fine arts requirement has a tendency to trip up many OOS applicants.

3) OOS students need to have a minimum UC GPA of 3.4 to apply.

4) 2 essays are required and some schools will weigh these essays more heavily than others such as UCB

5) Some campuses recommend SATII subject tests but do not require. I highly suggest you check each campus for the recommended tests and take them.

6) This is the biggest consideration of them all: UC’s give little to no financial aid to OOS students, so expect close to full pay at $55K/year.

If you any more questions, do not hesitate to contact me. I have been through the UC application process twice in the last 2 years with both my sons (in-state).

The majority of the UC’s are highly competitive and UCLA received around 100,000 applications last year.
