columbia_student – as to which UC is my preference: I voted with my feet and attended UCLA. My second choice would have been UCSB, and third UCSC. I didn’t fully appreciate Berkeley back then, or it would have been my second choice. For linguistics, UCLA was #3 in the country anyway, and no close competitor among the UCs.

I don’t think it’s 90%, that is an exaggeration.

Sorry I meant to ask the OP. I think he is on the fence about a UC school.

I posted the link to my numbers, which come straight from UC’s web site.

Here’s the list of SAT Math + Verbal:

Berkeley 1345
UCLA 1328
UCSD 1295
— 55 point gap —
UCD 1240
UCSB 1232
UCI 1229
— 52 point gap —
UCSC 1177
— 66 point gap —
UCR 1111
UCM 1090

Is 55 points on the SAT considered that huge a difference?

Not it is, it’s like missing 2-3 questions on the SAT. UCSD and UCD are known for good premed programs. UCD is the only UC with a football team. I would ignore the SAT difference and go with the UC that you are most comfortable with. Have you visit both campuses?

UCD is not the only UC w/ a football team…

I think for Div I

[University of California, Davis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](University of California, Davis - Wikipedia)

Cal, UCLA

UCSD, UCSB, UCD, UCI

UCR UCSC

UCM

You all must go to UCSD!!

Here is the rank from SD high school counselor’s office for this year, 2008:

UCLA
Berkeley

UCD
UCSD

UCI
UCSB

UCSC
UCR

This is based upon what level (ranking) senior got acceptance letters. EVERYONE got into UCSB.

No one with a 4.0 or better even applied to anything below UCSD on the list above, unless they had a relative who attended the other school.

Most kids that could get into UCLA-Berkeley-Davis did not SIR UCSD unless they had to live at home.

That’s what our office has to report.

BTW
My daughter got into Berkeley with less than 1345 SAT combo, but didnt get into UCLA. All other UC’s were a “yea” as well.

Agreed 100%
(maybe reverse UCLA & UCB :P)

I am a college counselor at a California high school and would like to add something.

UC Santa Cruz is now considered a “Competitive Admit” in the UC system. UC Riverside and UC Merced will offer admission to any California resident meeting the eligibility requirements. In the past years, UC Santa Cruz was in the same category. Unfortunately, those days are over. I learned this after making a call to admissions for a very good candidate with a 3.6 and decent test scores that was rejected…It was a strange year. We had two students accepted at UCSD and rejected at SDSU…
