I've been getting mixed responses as to whether or not the adcom at UCs make senior grades (thats first AND second semesters) part of your admissions criteria.

So do they use them as such or not????

With the UC system, the applicant reports his or her own grades.. so basically they accept you on your own merit.. HOWEVER, once you are accepted and you choose a UC, your school is asked to send a transcript of your grades.. so the UC you choose can reject you if you reported false information..

So, senior grades aren't really played into admissions.. your UC GPA only comprises of your soph/junior yr.. Senior grades will probably only affect you if you did really bad, in which they can revoke your acceptance. But no, they don't look at your mid year report or anything when considering your acceptance or rejection.. simply because they won't see it unless they accept you.

so they dont even see them when theyre examining the apps?

No, I don't think they do. I'm applying to UCs right now and self reported my grades through junior year. Since no senior year grades are sent and the app is due Nov. 30, I doubt senior year grades are counted in admission (I could be wrong). And I think, if you decide to go to a UC, they require you to maintain a 3.0 unweighted senior year.

Nope. Senior year grades do not matter. However, the courseload is of great importance.

hrm......this goes against everything ive been taught.

u sure?

here is my probably senior grades for 1st semester:
ap physics: c
ap calc: b
ap stats: a
econ: a
3d media design: a
english: a

4.0 overall that semester...will they care alot about the physics grade even if i am applying for computer science?
