UC system and OOS applicants.

I know all about 209 (I am a Californian, too). I don't know how that really applies to OOS students. I'm thinking that the UC's have a bit more flexibility with the OOS students. My friend's kids were not even top 10% from their OOS high school, but they both got into Berkeley.

bluebayou: My son did not get a Regent's scholarship. Only instate students are eligible for those. As I said, it was a modest package, but it was more than others offered.

Our Daughter was accepted to UCLA; we're Colorado residents. Ranked 1/450; very solid SAT scores (well above the UCLA median). Great recommendations and extracurriculars. I think her class rank and GPA were very big factors in her acceptance.

Was also accepted to Georgetown EA and University of Colorado-Boulder. UCLA's price was between the two and we didn't qualify for any financial aid. She chose CU-Boulder for a variety of reasons and is very happy there as a freshman this fall.

the UCs do not use class rank as an admissions criteria, since less than 50% of Calif public high schools even rank. Nor, do they use recs; if recs are submitted, they will NOT be read. Obviously, your D's strong transcript, ECs and essays did the trick.

Thanks for the clarification, bluebayou.
