UC system-- SAT subject tests no longer required starting in 2011?

I had heard that starting in Fall 2011 (meaning, for applications being submitted then), SAT subject tests will no longer be required for admission to the UCs.

True?

(I couldn't confirm this on the UC system web site, but I admittedly only perused it.)

Thanks.

I think it’s true for HS class of 2012, not 2011.

ETA: here’s the link http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/examination_reqs.html

ILoveLA, Yes, I did mean HS class of 2012 (they will be applying in fall 2011). Should have worded my post that way. Thanks for clarifying & for the link.

Did the Regents of the UC system say why they were dropping the subject matter standardized tests? Are we to assume they are looking to build classes with more than just high acheivers in gpa and standardized tests? Don’t they use the SAT2s for class placement? What will they be looking for?

This link explains the changes: [UC Regents Adopt Changes to Freshman Eligibility](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/eligibilitychanges/)
I think they use the SAT and AP scores more for placing out of classes rather than SAT2
