<p>I am only able to compare the satisfaction of my peers, and the satisfaction leans towards schools such as Northwestern and Cornell and the MSU Honors College over UM.</p>
<p>I understand that UM is almost a default first choice for many, many of the top high school students in Michigan.
My son's roommate and friend at Dartmouth came from a working class suburb of Detroit. After repeatedly drawing a blank about Dartmouth back home, he started telling people it was "the Michigan of the East".</p>
<p>Michigan is the first choice of the top quarter of every HS in the state, unless they have the means to go out of state, or decide to do extra research or searching for some reason. It is just a fact of life.</p>
<p>Michigan is an exceptional school. And for Michigan residents, one of the biggest bargians in the nation.</p>
<p>At least I have actually lived in Austin, had many co-workers who went there, and had a friend who taught there in the B school. I might not have been a Drag Worm but I knew my way around Barton Springs and Mo Pac.</p>
