can somebody explain the TAG and TAP to me? How to use it and how you guys used it…thanks!
TAP can be further differentiated between UCB and UCLA. They have different requirements, so read through these:
UCB TAP: http://my.berkeley.edu/site/Clubs?club_id=2200&sid=16701&pg=news
UCLA TAP: http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/tap/
Also make an appointment to see the Berk rep when sh/he visits your CC.
TAG stands for Transfer Admission Guarantee, and can be made at ONE of the six UC campuses (not available UCLA, UCB, and UCSD). If you meet the certain requirements for admission through TAG, you are guaranteed a spot.
You submit a TAG though this website https://uctap.universityofcalifornia.edu/students/index.cfm in September. You then submit a UC application with the campus AND MAJOR that you TAGged in November. If you put Biology on your TAG and Chemistry on the UC app, your TAG is void.

My high school GPA wouldn’t qualify me for any honors programs, at least not this first semester, and I feel like I want to adjust to college, would that affect my fulfilling the TAP requirements?
No, not at all.
I was able to join UCLA TAP based on my college GPA by my second semester of Freshman year.
Each CC has a slighly different requirement for how to TAP certify, so check in with them to see what the requirements are.
I’m not as familiar with UCB TAP, but I think they just have to accept you/there aren’t any requirements. I think @lindyk8 might know more, or @briank82
Exactly, @luckie1367. It isn’t honors based. It’s based on under representation: minority, low income, first gen (as I recall). You simply connect with a UCB TAP rep at your CCC and there’s an interview. Pretty straight forward. The program helps by providing support, some general mentoring, and invitation to events. They say there is no priority guarantee, but it seems to me there is.
However, you need to be at one of the participating CCCs. Not all have it. I’ll look for the link.
Program:

There’s a list of member NoCal and SoCal CCCs on the page.
I’m in UCB’s TAP and was admitted into their program due to being a veteran. They have a pretty good success rate with those admitted into their program, but I’m trying to get into UCB’s Haas and I don’t think it helps much in that regard as it’s so competitive. It is most helpful in that I get help with my application and good feedback and assistance with my essays.
btw something that has nothing to do with TAP/TAG, when are the finals for winter/summer semesters usually? I’m looking on my college academic calendar and I don’t see finals/exams for summer/winter sessions.
Are you asking about your CC or the UC system?
CC
@linkyk8 does UCLA have a list of participating CCs? I don’t see my cc on the UCB list.
Here are the UCLA TAP schools: http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/ADM_CCO/tap.htm#TAP
Sometimes it is posted in the class schedule. Thats where it was at SMC for me
yeah so UCLA has my CC but UCB doesn’t, is that bad?
